Waltard in Mitchell had 16,20 and twelve the week of the 23-28 October whether they do now I don’t know their is a runnings farm store in Mitchell too they might have some wouldn’t hurt to call all three prior to going

I was in the Mitchell Cabela's two days ago. Nowhere near as much ammo as the opening week, which was 3 weeks ago now. All the pallets were gone. What they had fit on one short aisle, and a couple of endcaps. I didn't pay much attention because I didn't need any ammo, just kinda strolled through to see how it compared to opening week.

Definitely still had 16ga and 28ga prairie storm at $38 bucks a box. I think I saw some regular blue box Federal 12ga pheasant loads- 1 & 1/4 oz of 4's and/or 5's @ 1220 fps. Around $16-18 a box I think.
I did notice some Federal 12ga 3" steel 4's for $20 a box. Not the greatest non-tox option, but certainly not the worst either.

Didn't go into the walmart this trip. They had quite a bit the opening week, but probably a lot less now too.

Thank you everybody for the update. I’m now down to single digits on day counts til I get there next Friday and start hunting Saturday. Gotta love thanksgiving break when you work in education.

Dont put all your cards on getting shells in Mitchell
I was in Cabelas there last week twice for dog supplies, both times there was a crazy scene at the ammo aisle. Thankfully i didnt need ammo, but the only stuff there im 12 gauge was the cheap stuff and it literaly was being scraped into peoples carts. I heard one guy say, "ive got 5 cases at home" while grabbing the rest off the endcap...looks like people gearing up for war. I think its that way everywhere...
Look else where, like SoDak, but look everywhere

Many businesses are giving a 4 day weekend for Thanksgiving, a great hunting holiday! The pheasant season covers a good share of bonus hunting days for the working man. Veterans, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

I stopped there yesterday. It was flooded with people buying anything they could get there hands on. There were no 12 ga loads other than trap and some 1 oz federal stuff. I did grab some 16 ga but when I saw the lines were 20+ deep I set it down and walked out. Found good 1 1/4 oz shells and 12 bucks cheaper at Runnings.

I went into Runnings this A.M. and their shelves had a some of everything...EXCEPT, what I was looking for, Winchester steel 2's & 3's...they did have 4's, though. LOL

I've had good luck at all the random gas stations around. Gas station in Presho and in Blunt had an assortment of 20ga a few days ago.

These guys who pay 20-40 dollars for a box of shells are insane.
i agree with you. Paying that much money for shells is insane but when we travel to South Dakota we pay gas hotel food license etc. what’s an extra $20 for a box of shells to do something we wait all year to do. I have checked all my sporting good stores here all summer and fall and nothing is available. I have some leftover from last year but it never hurts to buy a box just in case.

I get that, lead shells are hard to find this year. I've always stayed under 15 dollars a box.I look at some of the prices these days, and I'm astounded.
