Buffer zones outlawed in some Iowa counties

POOP must be hitting the fan. There were 4, then three now only one county it says. The article keeps being edited. I think this idea is being met with resistance by some folks in Iowa.

I don't know what to think about that article??? It doesn't make much sense to me?? Is it saying Farmers will have to remove buffer strips?? Or is it saying no more can be planted?????

It's clear that the county commisioners are happy to have the county topsoil runoff to the Mississippi River delta. In the name of sovereignty over over a ditch. On the other hand it seems like some compromise would suit all parties. If a ditch needs to be dug out, or other maintenence done, seems like there should be exemptions for it in the language of the law. Apparently no common sense on either side. I doubt the ruling of the county commissioners will win out, in a test of wills with the federal government, who by the way probably provides the funds to do ditch maintenence in the first place!

The county or drainage district must have easements or be responsible for the maintenance of those ditches.

Farmers flip the bill when ditch needs to be cleaned. I think the farmers that have the ditch run through their land should pay it all. Ditch by town they were pulling cars and junk out of them when cleaning. Then all the trees they let grow on them. Why would Iowa stop polluters look at the chicken and pork industry:thumbsup: It's just the gov't trying to stay busy. A little brain power and all sides would be happy, but thats to easy.

Rather than ban all of them, could they not get a varience when they actually needed to do some repairs? What % of repairs could not be done outside of nesting season? I smell a rat that wants to grow more corn.

That whole brain power thing seems to be a tough thing to find in government these days. Which is what made it kind of difficult to pass the Dove bill. Talked to a guy yesterday though who was lobbying for dove hunting and he said he is going to allow hunters on his land and planting new dove plots just because.
