Brit/GSP crosses out there?

I'm not looking to start a debate - if you don't know of someone that has this breed, please don't comment.

My male is half Brit and GSP, a HELL of a dog, and is getting old fast. I got a female GSP 2 years ago to breed him to, and my lab has gotten to her 2 heat cycles in a row.

This post is to see of there are any female Brit/gsp's out there. If you don't know of any, please don't comment.

I really appreciate any assistance.

I'll comment if I want to I work in bird dog rescue....the world doesn't need more mutts and you should be controlling your lab

geesh

the possibility of getting another "great cross" is a crap shoot although both breeds are so similar in hunting characteristics you will probably get a hunting dog.

If you find a accidental breeding fine get one nothing wrong with doing that, doing it intentionally if you don't have about 10 people that want cross bred pups is a bad idea.

I would agree 100%. Stick with a pure bred and leave the breeding up to a breeder that knows what they are doing. It's the only way to enhance the breed.

2+

Bobman and DZ have it nailed.

The world already has too many "mutts" out there.

BTW, you haven't created a "new breed"? That's NUTZ.

I frankly don't give a flying fadoodle what any of the three of you think, or any other opinion like it, and those comments would be deleted if I could figure out how. Thanks for nothing.

If anyone knows of a female Brit/GSP, I'm still looking.

Why don't you hunt with the Lab/GSP's? I think they are called wesselpointers:).

Because my male is a Brit/GSP.

You folks can be tough on the internet all you like. If I'd met you in person and the conversation took this turn, I'd of walked off immediately.

I am laughing outloud reading these comments. Sorry but if you are looking for a mutt to breed to another mutt or a purebred why would you put it on this forum? You gotta know you are going to catch flak. We all need to laugh at ourselves once in a while.

Jethro,

I have been on many Internet forums over the years. This is one of the most pleasant and friendly ones I have encountered. So I would calm down the rhetoric about us being a bunch of jerks.

I am sure your Brittany/Shorthair is a great dog and a great hunter. No one on here is going to tell you otherwise. Without the mixing of breeds to gain hybrid vigor and produce highly valuable results we would not have the GSP or the Brittany.

I have no problem with anyone who is going to try and further hunting dog genetics by improved breeding and cross breeding. However that is not for the faint of heart. It takes decades of hard work, research and lots of money to do that. It also takes culling a lot of Dogs. That is not a very popular idea in the USA these days.

It seems to me like you are more interested in a 1 time breeding between your very good bird dog and another crossbred dog. I think this is foolish as do others on here. But it is not wrong or unethical to do so. I do think it would be wrong and unethical to breed those 2 dogs without first having people lined up to buy at least 7 pups from the breeding. If you can't get 7 people to sign up for that than you are more than likely just adding more dogs to the already overpopulated shelter system.

We are not a bunch of rude snobs on this website, but we do take Dogs seriously and we all love them a great deal. That's why you got the reaction you did.

I hope you stick around the site. I would enjoy seeing a picture of your dog.

Winner winner chicken dinner. How about that one jethro?

As long as you don't have a problem telling me your dog's breed so that I can tease it, I'm fine with it.

Look, I don't have time to bounce back and forth with pithy little smartass replies. I've put this on a few FB groups, and those folks are respectful. If y'all can't pull that off, whatever, I'd like to leave the post up for the hope that someone that actually has or knows of someone that has this cross sees the thread.

You all take care, now.

Jethro sorry about that I got caught in the moment. We all were just screwing with you.

Tom's got a lab, GB a golden, Jake a setter, me a chesapeake. That's hundreds of years of breeding from people a lot different than you.
You want a GSP cross I"ll keep an eye out for one. You want to breed your own, here, no ones going to encourage that.

Responsible breeding goes much further than "I want".

Not sure if you are simply trolling or if this is real, but the fact that you have had two mistake breedings and appear to not care about hips or other issues.

I know of one GSP/Britt female. Good hunter too.
