~ A rare and little known breed, but nevertheless a wonderful gundog from France: the Braque de l'Ariège. ~

Check out this thread from the VesatileDogs.com forum. Chiendog frequently writes about some of the more rare breeds. He does a wonderful job with the articles and photos. Be sure to check out the link at the bottom of his first post. If you go to VersatileDogs.com and search a breed by name you will probably come up with an article by chiendog.

Thanks Zeb, I always enjoy some good reading to pass the time. Kind of interesting to explore some of these rare breeds

Before I got my last Brittany I did a lot of research on quite a number of the rarer breeds. I had a great time discovering and reading about them. Nearly bought a French Spaniel. I still enjoy reading about the lesser known breeds. If and when I ever get another dog one that I will highly consider is the Blue Picardy Spaniel. I have read so many excellent things about them.

Darn you onpoint. You had to get me thinking about the more rare dog breeds again. Like I said in my previous post, I am very intrigued with the Blue Picardy Spaniel. Been thinking and reading more about them the past few days. Just got off the phone with Dan Fath, a breeder in Canada just south of Calgary. http://bluepicardy.com/ Only "kickin' the tires". I might have to meet him in Montana some time for a hunt and check out his dogs.

I can only imagine the looks I would get showing up at some of my NSTRA trials with a Blue Picardy. The Blue Picardy's have a heavy influence of English Setter in them so some are pretty fast and rangy dogs. They might do okay in NSTRA.

I like that dog. I read about a Braque D' Avingone? years ago. All the Braque's are named for an area in France where they were popularized. They look like puposeful dogs, who can be integrated into the family, as well as hunt. If you have pups, you won't have competition close from other breeders!
