lol, you wish buddy.... This was a stud bird, definitely one if not the nicest looking bird I've ever shot as far as tail and spurs go.

yup this is him. once he shows up I'll try and get a better pic of the spurs for you

i still have all those long white tiped spurs from the ones we took and never saw a good set after that weekend

Looks great.

Question for a taxidermy newby---after the shot, when you're 3 hours from nowhere, what do you do with the bird? Roll in newspaper and place on ice? What?

Nice bird! It's a good idea to fold the head under a wing, then get it into a freezer as soon as you can. If your "3 hours" from no where keep him cool and yes, if newspaper or a towel is available wrap him up to insulate and he's good to go.;)

Back in '05 I had a nice rooster on dry ice for 5 days and he was still good for the mount.

Wipe any blood off and put tissue in beak if bleeding. Newspaper and freeze if long trip.

Great tips UB.

Keep in mind too, any remaining blood (even dried up blood) on the feathers, will come off through the taxidermy process of washing and decreasing.

If you have to leave some blood that's fine. It's better to leave blood for the taxidermist to remove than to pull feathers.

I made this video for those "long distance from a freezer" occasions. It's very basic and brief but it may help.;)
