My yellow lab has always been a barker, but my black lab puppy hardly ever barks. I don't sit in a blind, I'm more of a running gun call type, I do call birds and, and occasionally I will hunt turkeys like pheasants.

This bird I had some luck in my favor, did not have the dogs with me, got out at zero dark 30. 30. Him call on the roost, just got he answered my call, I was able to get on him after a couple of hours of stalking.I think he's a 5 year old.He Was hung up on the other side of a draw, so I had to put the sneak on him.

That is very nice.I save fans and beards.I think this is my 31st year of turkey hunting. The first 10 years, I really had no idea what I was doing. I learned by making mistakes.

Thanks,it was a great hunt.I was barely able to lift the bird. I thought I might have to drag him like a mule.

Thank you,he's in the top 3 biggest that I've gotten.Um glad I had a wagon to haul him to the truck,big bird.

My buddy got his first turkey yesterday. He was scouting a few weeks before season and saw birds in a field from the interstate. He door knocked and got a green light. 25.5 lb. eastern, double beard 11" on the primary one, spurs 1 3/8". He was super excited, I think he's hooked.
I'll go late season and see what happens. It seems like it has been a really good turkey hunting year in MN. For bird numbers right now is "the Good Ole Days" in Minnesota.

Bird numbers are bouncing back in NE Nebraska. I just filled my second tag today there. Three came in, all 2nd year birds it appeared. Early afternoon. Birds were gobbling all around me walking out. Ill second what someone said about the Neb birds having small spurs. These Merriam/Eastern hybrids dont get huge it seems. Most birds I shoot are probably 20 lbs, 3/4 inch spurs, 10+ i ch beards.

Awesome. Once a guy gets the will power to knock on doors, it often opens up opportunities for years. My guess is that landowner is going to allow him back next season, and beyond, assuming he doesn't abuse it. Same concept can be applied pheasant hunting in the fall.
My turkey dog manages to put birds up with some regularity probably 50:50 since I started taking him about a decade ago… he loves it and I wouldn’t consider going without him. I like how he gets after em after the shot and pins em down since I don’t always get one in the noggin especially on the wing. He also has better eyes than me….and alerts me when we are sitting and calling to sneaky toms in heavy cover. We’ve had some good times.

Only one time have I been more surprised then when a pointed turkey flushed in front of me and that was when a pointed Peacock did!
I didn't shoot the turkey because i didn't have a tag, but I did shoot the peacock because they are not protected. Tastes very much like a very large pheasant.

Yes,25lbs is a big turkey.I missed one with my bow this spring.Archery hunting is fun but difficult.

He around but he wouldn't come any closer, so I knew I had to close the distance, and I moved through the woods calling and I knew I was getting close to him, and then I came through a little draw, and there was a steep hill about 20 yd long and I climbed up that steep Hill, and there he was in full strat at 20 yd, and I just took a snapshot and got him in the head. It was a really fun morning and that's what I love about turkey hunting.
