Best Turkey calls

What are the best calls you have found or the ones you like best?

For me it's:

Slate: Primo's Freak

Box: Lynch's foolproof

Mouth: Can't use one

In all I've probably spent my weight in turkey calls and these are by far the best I've found.

What I usually take out with me.

Friction: H.S. Strut Lil' Deuce 2 - double slate over glass. I like to use H.S.'s "Rosewood" and synthetic strikers with it.

Box: Used to love my Quaker Boy call (can't remember the name), but the dog chewed it up and I haven't replaced it yet. I've been thinking about getting a new one this week though, so hopefully we get lots of replies in this thread.

Diaphragm: Primo's True Double 2, and Primo's triple reed "Many Beards".

I also take a hoot owl call made by H.S. Strut, and a gobbler made by Primo's out with me if I need to locate the roost (if the roost if even anywhere around me ).

Mouth Call Only

Only call I've used is a mouth call which I chose when I started hunting turkey because it leaves my hands free for gun handling. The best one I've had came from Walmart, a Primos brand, very cheap and easy to use. The hands free feature of mouth calls paid off one spring when my cover was an axle of an irrigation sprinkler. Not much cover but I got my tom because I had my gun ready while calling. Had been required to put down a hand operated call and pick up my gun, all that movement might have spooked the birds.

Congrats on your son's first Tom. I bet you were one proud papa! :D

Best call I ever used (and still do) is a 2gal. metal bucket with about 10-15 small rocks in it. Usually start calling in Jan. Go out to area about 3 times a week, rattle-rattle-rattle bucket and rocks, through out about 10lbs. of corn and leave.
Stop all calling about 5-6 days before season opener and then slip in opening morning about daylight, rattle the bucket, turn it over and dump rocks out and sit on bucket and wait........Usually works GREAT!!!!;);)

If I cant find a proper bucket I use an old Lynch cedar box call and/or a cheap Primos diaphram. They also seem to work.

You turn those turkeys into Pavlov dogs with your conditioning. Smart!
