Bald Eagle Shot Dead

PIERRE, SD - State and federal officials are investigating the shooting death of a bald eagle on the Fort Pierre National Grasslands in central South Dakota.

Authorities believe the bird was killed with a shotgun over the weekend. They are seeking the public's help in finding whoever is responsible.

Bald eagles no longer are protected under the Endangered Species Act, but it still is illegal to kill one of the birds.

Eagle shooting seems to be a long enduring pastime. Several years ago in North Central Kansas, while being checked by a warden, he got a call about eagles shot near Lovewell reservior. Should be a lifetime ban and maybe even jail time for shock value.
