Season's right around the corner & I'm startin to get the itch real bad...All licensed up & ready to roll with the breeze (and the birds) in three states this year - CO, KS, & NE!!!

I got a feelin (from local reports) - that this year's gonna be a good year, a good-good year (all around the region close in to Denver) -Wooh-Hooh!!! Some of u young-uns may happen to recognize the thinly-veiled BEP take-off!

Maybe I should have used an old-skool southern-rock analogy: They call me the breeze - I keep rollin' with the birds...

Looks like I won't have to roll far at all from Denver this year - lots of good ju-ju starting to rise from the happy hunting grounds grapevine in eastern CO and western KS & NE!!!

Rooster, I wish I had your ENERGY!!!!! Oh, and MONEY!!!!! LOL

Didn't you give me a rash of crap about a while ago about hunting too much and in too many states

@pheasantaddict - Thx, the ADVENTURE is why I go...I get tired of hunting the same old places time after time, I like new scenery & constant surprises!

@Bleu - trust me, I don't have all that much energy left these days EXCEPT when it comes to chasin roosters & the only money I plan on spending is for those licenses, gas, local diners & maybe a nite or two once in awhile in a cheap hotel!

@moeller - please try to keep in mind, we men of the cloth are prone to speak a bit "evangelistically"...I will be doing really well if I can average my goal of one day a week throughout the season (no more than last year & mostly done in LONG, HARD day-trips), just want to expand my horizons a bit - there's an awful lot of good stuff barely across the border from CO in both KS & NE - since I'm already practically there where I hunt anyway, don't wanna have my wings clipped from jumping across the line if I don't find enough of what I want on my side of it! :D

@FC - the only reason I'm "ahead of you" is I just wanted to have the licenses on hand & ready to go, so that I am not hamstrung in any way should I take a wild hair on any given day to stray a wee bit further from the house! ;)

Y'all spoiled-rotten oldtimers who have had the privilege of growing up in pheasant country, please forgive my over-exuberance & wallowing in only my second year here!!! Rooster-Chasin is the only form of hunting left that can still keep me awake some nites beforehand! :p

Hey Rooster! A bit fired up are Ya!! Good for you.
Good plan to not worry about State lines.:)

HHR,

I live here and it keeps me awake nights. In fact, I was up till about 2:30 this morning and now I'm a wreck. I think it's great to see someone that is as "stupid excited" (that's what the wife calls it) as I am right now. It's going to be a good year in much of the state with a few areas that didn't do so well b/c of localized events.

I too am ready my friend. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with us:thumbsup:

Wow KB I don't feel so bad now, I just got my Wis. and Il. Lic. my wife kicks me out to the garage because I keep fidgeting with my hunting supplies and walk around talking about Duck and pheasant hunting in KS., hell I think she is ready to shoot me with her black powder rifle. glad to see there are other people out there acting enthusiastic about hunting this year.

"confession" time:

A Special PUBLIC CONFESSION just for MoellerMD:
Genuinely sorry for all my hunting-hypocrite "stone throwing" ways...OK, OK, already, I'm comin clean - "Hi, my name is Roger & I have a problem. I am a fellow roosterholic"...Got a long, long way to go to keep this heavy addiction under control!!! But I ain't anywhere near ready to give it up altogether... :D :D :D

One other possible explanation for my "relapse" into such erratic & fanatical roosterholic behavior of late - perhaps it has something to do with going thru serious withdrawals now for nigh almost a year...The Cure: Turn me loose & just let me run wild on the first couple of birds, MAYBE I'll settle right down after that!!! Heh-Heh-Heh :)

Im just excited to see my Sophia in action this year. although she will be 4-6 months old by the time she is introduced to hunting, which may be a bit of a rush, but so far the breeder mentioned shes smelling things and pointing, which is a good sign.

i do have to say it does get boring hunting the same place evry year, as i hunt on my father's and my grandpa's land every year. it does get old, you do expect the amount of birds that may be there. i can only think of two sweet hunting pits out of the 3K acres that are huntable that i can fill my limit in 30 mins, which blows bc hunting should be an all day event.

I remember back in the days when we had a great year, we did this HUGE milo field, no birds flew til they reached the blocks, and then filled 13 hunter's limit in a 30 min shooting span at the end. the sky was filled with pheasants left and right, it looked like a bunch of bees coming at you from the distance. i was like 14 at the time, and all i heard was gunshots.. i dont think anyone was counting their limit, it was shoot at will.

but i believe at the end, i think they were 3 over their limit, which they left with my dad for hunting that sweet spot so they wouldnt get in trouble on the road for over the limit. good ole days, now pheasants seem to know tactics and rather run than fly. them bastards.

I am SUPER excited to get out there this year. I still have a license good in Kansas and am ready to go in Minnesota.

My two springers are getting antsy and are ready to roll.

My red setter will be 6 months on opening day in Minnesota. He is coming along nicely and has an excellent nose. Last week I went to get the mail, he was running down the driveway, stopped dead in his tracks and ran 80 yards to the right directly at 3 pheasants. He flushed them and gave chase, but came right back when I called him.

Now I just gotta get going on building that dogbox....

The seasons for all 3 states runs thru January. So if you hunted this past Jan. you had to get a license then which is good to end of Dec.

@UplandHntr - Why the early license?? How about Sept DOVE, GROUSE, TEAL, for starts...Secondarily, have you ever had the privilege/hassle of trying LAST MINUTE to purchase a license or upland or waterfowl stamp at some sold-out local small-town vendor or Wal-Mart & especially try to track down an accompanying map-guidebook of WIHA properties, wasting precious moments or HOURS of your time off that was supposed to be allotted for HUNTING??? Need I say more...

@Tucker - I never did wind up purchasing a "2nd" 2011 KS or NE license for last January (after clearing up all the confusion that unlike TX, CO, NM, PA or anywhere else I have ever hunted in my life - my 2010 license was no longer valid after Dec)...I found PLENTY of birds to keep me happy the rest of the season much closer to home in CO!!!

This year I have just made up my mind already to expand my horizons & do a little extra wanderlust-ADVENTURING in brand new places (all of them still plenty close to home & only a skip and a jump from my already familiar happy hunting grounds in eastern CO)...I am REALLY EXCITED about the possibility in KS for a rooster/quail mixed-bag bonus once in awhile!!! The whole shebang (all 3 tickets to checker-hopping back & forth across the borders) cost me a grand total of less than $250 - Geez, that's pretty dang cheap hunting with all of that multiplied public access & doors to knock on in 3 proximate areas if you ask me - such a deal!!!

hhr, don't let anyone pull your chain. You have a plan run with it. I to have plans to hunt several states. I don't see the need to explain your maddness. It's your money, run with it. Post pics an brag, after it's all over, lol:10sign: I am pumped also, and I will not let anyone bring me down.
