PLOWED UNDER. 23 million acres of wildlife habitat have been turned into corn, soybean and wheat fields since 2008, according to a report from the Environmental Working Group. South Dakota, where this picture was taken by a Pheasants Forever biologist, Iowa and Nebraska were top states for switching grasslands and wetlands to crops. This is pheasant country, and we need your support more than ever: www.pheasantsforever.org/join

The uneasiness in the farmer and sportsmen relationship is brought home in this example, forcing a fork between one extreme or goal to another. Makes the tough minded land owner who stays the course, and keeps a balance, sees the past, and a future of the farm he grew up on, is invaluable. Were losing a lot of these, and we are not replacing them with the like!
