1.) I will dedicate 2-3 days just for Quail

2.) I will Dedicate however long it takes to get some Chickens!!!

3.) I will dedicate a hunt for Sharptail and Blue Grouse!!

4.) I will dedicate time to find Scaled Quail and Hunt them!!!

5.) Of course chasing the Longtail!!

Anything after this will be a bonus this next season. Setting my goals high, some of these are not going to be easy and some good scouting and planning will have to be invoved.

What is on the Top of your list as far as Bird Hunting Goes????

Goals

My only goal is to scout and knock on as many doors as possible to gain access to at least one private farm. Anything after this will be a bonus.

Of course the annual South Dakota trip but that goes without saying.

My goals this year.

1. Have some NEW habitat in place for the opening day

2. Improve that habitat that I already have.

3. Hunt sharptails this year

4. Find some Huns also

5. Spend some time with a few friends who missed last season defending our country.

6. Meet some new friends again this year

But most of all be safe and have fun hunting.

My goals for the next 9 months... start banking "get out of jail free" cards so I can join Bleu on his bucket list adventures! :D

yup yup, with the addition of getting a GSP!

Prairie Chickens and Plains Sharptails are on top of my list. Hopefully a buddy in Nebraska can help me accomplished it

I shot my first Prairie Chicken this year so that's off my list. I would like to get a Scaled Quail and Sharptail now. Also get my new lab pup into as many birds as possible.

Well I pretty much reached all my goals this season, except having my 3 yo setter retrieve a bird, but my new pup retrieved so I sort of got it. But I hunted really hard this year and saw and shot a lot fewer birds than nomal.

In State:
Shoot over point a Prairie Chicken over my pup Indy. (Ace 3 yo has done that already)
Shoot over point a Scaled quail over both dogs (never hunted them)

Out of state trip - never hunted anywhere but KS
Shoot a Hun over point
Shoot a Sharptail over point

Dog training:
Get Ace completely broke to wing and shot while hunting (he is solid on pigeons, but hunting is a different story)
Get Indy completely staunch on point and while backing. (he is pretty good for 8 months, but now it time to start some real training)

Hunting partners:
Get out with my son at least 4 times, and take my future SIL out a couple times.
Hunt a bunch with my normal hunting partners
Go on the out of state trip with Josh (and John if we can get him to go)
Get my wife to go at least once with me and the dogs.

....
....
And start looking for a new pup next year (Just in the arsenal of hunting buddies)

May all christmas wishes come true for those seeking!

My bucket list

1. Hunt with people whose dogs actually point!
2. Get Nitro solid on point, he did point this year a couple of times at 7-9 months, old I was happy:)
3. Hunt the KS opener again and possibly SD, if not opener sometime during the season.
4. Most importantly have fun!!!

Upland Bucket list:
1. Hunt Prairie Chickens/Sharpies for the first time, hopefully successful on a mountworthy Chicken.
2. Hunt wild quail for the first time, again hopefully successful.
3. Get the dog over more wild birds this year than last.

Plan to take a couple trips this fall. A grouse hunt in Nebraska while targeting chickens is my top priority, and hopefully another trip to Kansas for pheasant and quail.

Got an area I have wanted to hit I bow hunted. Always seen many ruffies, and always flush a few roosters walking around with no hound. So I want to go there and get the grouse and my rudy's both in the same spot, same day. Plus a woodie or 2 along with that. The hat trick. Maybe, just maybe you could shoot your total limit of ducks as well. Done the duck thing there many times. But then just went home.

Sage Grouse

My #1 bucket item this year will Sage Grouse before our niwits / nannies decide the should be put on the "endangered species" list and I won't ever hunt them again in my lifetime. Killed a few in my youth but would like to savior the moment followed by good scotch and a fine cigar....

I hope you can do it.

I want to take a nice lesser prairie chicken here at the ranch for a mount while there is still a hunting season. Many, many years ago a gave a nice specimen to the game warden because I didn't have the money to have it mounted. :(

Good luck to you in your endeavour.... we have to decided to make a spectical of our pursuit... Elk tent, stove, the whole nine yards... Very Edwardian... minus the fancy SxS's......

Sounds like a great pursuit. I have a not fancy 16 gauge SxS that I would loan you.;)

I humbly thank you for you offer but in a way this is a bucket list for my favorite Browning Upland Special. I am sharing it with my devoted shotgun. It has traveled all over and we have shared many adventures and dogs... She would probably get made at me.... :)
