2007 Pheasant Hunting Photos & Reports

Father & Sons Hunt in South Dakota the Week Before Christmas

Hunting can be pretty good late season as indicated by results in photo. We found most of these birds in sloughs and CRP.

Late Season Hunt

I returned last night from a 3 day ND hunt (we planned to hunt yesterday too buy my Dad's 73 year old knees couldn't take another day afield). Once again, the late season birds reinforced Darwin's laws of natural selection.

Our Springers flushed plenty of tight sitting hens from every slough, cattail marsh and grass patch we worked but the roosters refused to play hide 'n seek with us. Although a few roosters made mistakes and payed the ultimate price, most flushed wild.

I'm not sure what cognitive powers rooster pheasants posess but over the course of the season, there's no doubt they learn that the sounds of approaching hunters means dogs and doom.

I came across this bird in McIntosh County, ND

Thanks guys. You're right Swellcat, Webguy wouldn't want us turning this into a bird watching site but I like live bird shots too (of our favorite game bird anyway).

Chris, I just use my Panasonic TZ1 because it's small enough to carry in the field and it has a 10x optical zoom. I'd like a DSLR and a nice lens or two but obviously, it wouldn't be practical to try to carry them in the field. I like Cackleburs idea of keeping his Pentax Optio on a lanyard too.
