Only two weeks until the first shotgun blast of the Fall!

How are you guys making the time pass?

I got out the clippers today and gave ol' Rusty his Fall hunting haircut. It's almost criminal to chop off all that beautiful feathering on a golden retriever, but it sure makes life easier when the cockleburs can't take hold. Now he looks like a yellow lab with red ears.

He knows what the Fall haircut means, for sure. Both dogs are antsy as hell now, and I'm not much better as far as that goes. All the neighborhood doves have been shot with my imaginary shotgun...

Guess the next order of business is to dig out my dove bucket and see what kind of shells I have left from last year...

C'mon hunting season!

Just obsessing about it.

Only two weeks away....oh man totally jealous. I wish we were that close up here in NW IA. I can't wait to head out there and shoot. The only good part is I think as dry as the corn is going to be, I hope most of it's out of the fields by hunting time.

I've been drinking heavily so I don't wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep like a kid at Christmas. No I'm going to shoot some trap with the buds to get the eye back and scout in the evenings.

Heck, he is even a better dog to look like a yellow labs:thumbsup:

At least they won't call himi a swamp collie

Good luck and stay safe...

Think I'll drink too, and keep obsessing.

Well, I am fishing 3 or 4 days a week, setting up trail cams, driving the roads looking for deer and pheasants, scouting for a dove spot, and the list goes on. I am an outdoorsman and conservationist. Always plenty to do year round.

You have shells left after dove season?!? I've found that you don't "hunt" doves, you just go out & shoot until you're out of ammo, then go home . . .

I'm passing the hours & days training my new pup.

I envy your "responsibilities." Once I get through the kids' youth sports careers, I hope to have a similar list of things to do.

When you say conservationist, are you planting, cutting, burning (wheat stubble) or just what this time of year?

I haven't really done any scouting. I'll probably just go back to one of the spots I've done well at in previous years to get my fix.

I think I'm in the same boat as KB. Work, kids, honey-do's, repeat... I steal a little time for myself;), but time really flies these days!

Speaking of distractions... (hi-jack my own thread:D)... For those of you who get the Smoke Signal newspaper, I was in the paper last week for getting a hole-in-one at Wabaunsee.

We get the Smoke Signal, but I would've skipped over anything golf:D I'm a terrible golfer, but I really do want to rent some clubs and a cart and play at Wabaunsee...just for the scenery if nothing else. Besides, it's less than 20 miles away.

CONGRATS on the hole in one:cheers: Howd'ya like the place in general? Did you see anyplace to rent clubs from? I heard they had carts for rent.

I love the place. My family has a home on the lake, so I play there all the time... When I'm not fishing...

9 holes, grass greens, play all day for like $10. Rent a cart for something like $10. I think they have loaner or rental clubs too. Best bargain you'll ever find playing golf! Some of the holes were recently finished, so the grass is still filling in on the fairways, but just kick your ball up onto a good patch and 'game on'. PM me if you want to meet up out there some time. I have a cart, so that's a $10 savings to you right there.:cheers:

Oh yeah, UNLIKE hunting, I do NOT wait until afterwards to drink the beer.:D Best reason to play golf IMO...
