In mid November, I'm meeting a former employee and his party in Mobridge, SD. Target: Pheasants. Grouse as a side game. What I'm looking for from the braintrust is areas to hunt along the way. It's a 24 hr slog up there and I'd like to get the hounds out and let them stretch their legs. No preserve shooting...public or private is ok. Grouse, chukar, quail or pheasant are fair game. Most states offer short term licenses for upland, so it doesn't just have to be in SD. TIA!
 
Them are some K9's (as your plate says)...good looking (I assume) Vizslas and a Chevy.
 
plate actually reads "hand"some k9's:thumbsup: when they're rolling in the bed, people are always telling me how handsome they are. Brothers...yes, Vizslas...Thx for the props!!!
 
Ah...I see the hand now. Good luck on your trip. They are some big boys for Vizslas...

To answer your question there basically aren't any huntable numbers of upland birds easily accessible on your whole route. A few sage grouse in Wyoming but you could spend an entire day and not find any. First bird opportunity begins about the time you you hit my hometown of Faith, SD you could start to encounter some prairie grouse if you looked in the right spots. There might be a private land walkin area or two between Faith and Mobridge. But by that time you are within 100 miles of your destination and no reason to slow down until you get there.

Your from Faith maybe we discussed this before, but I have a lot of connections there from my mother having lived there and a bunch of college buddies.
