    Hunting in the wind

After watching the Masters golf tournament today and hearing the announcers talk about the importance of knowing the course conditions, I thought to start a thread on hunting pheasant in various weather conditions. First up- hunting in 25 MPH plus wind conditions. Okay guys, let's hear some of...

    One thing you learned

"What is one thing you learned this year that will make you a better pheasant hunter next year?" I'll start. On a hunt in Northwestern Kansas in mid January this year, the wind was steady at 35 MPH and gusting to 50 MPH. I knew they would be in cedar tree windbreaks, which they were. I learned...

    My take on Kansas

I'm a first time poster and twenty year pheasant hunter in Kansas. I've noticed a lot of talk and some disagreement on the laws and public land debate on this forum. I don't know enough about those things to comment, but I do want to share my view on the actual hunting there. I checked off a...

    Hunting soggy cattails

On my first trip to SD last week, I must have seen 100 plus pheasants fly into to a large cattail section with ankle deep water. Do any of you venture out to hunt these kind of areas before the freeze? If so, do the birds hold pretty good in this kind of cover?

    Humble Pie

Well, after coming out yesterday for my first trip to SD and killing two birds right off the bat, today was a little different. Steady 15-20 MPH winds all day, hens galore at my feet and poor shooting on the roosters that did get up left me with a big fat zero. Serves me right, I was getting a...

    South Dakota Newbie

I fulfilled a dream by landing in SD today to hunt pheasant. I literally was dressed to hunt on the plane and hit the ground running. I'm hunting solo with no dog. I started hunting at 1:30pm and ended up with two roosters on public land. I probably saw close to a 100 birds. THIS STATE IS LEGIT!

    Wish I knew it then

I'll be heading out next week on my first trip to South Dakota to hunt on public land. For you regulars who have hunted this paradise for pheasant hunters over the years, what is the one thing you know now that you wish you knew your first time out?

    Bucket list checked off

I'm heading to SD for the first tme next week. Been hunting Kansas the last twenty years and fulfilling a dream by coming to South Dakota. Let's hope it's not a nightmare as I'm coming alone, no dog and hunting on public land. I might be a little cocky, but I plan on killing birds! So thankful...
