The oddest thing you have had your dog point

It would be less time consuming and if the vet got involved, a lot cheaper if they avoided those "points".

There has been a lot of talk about the change in the type of wheat planted, the stubble height left when it is harvested and the efficiency of farming not leaving much waste grain as well. Combine that with CRP expiration and weather and I guess we ought to be thankful that there are any birds...

The oddest thing you have had your dog point

I have two friends who have GSP's and they love to "point" porcupines. Then we spend a half hour pulling out quills. Strangest thing they have pointed is an armadillo.

    New KS Hunter

Welcome to the fray. I have hunted KS for 38 years and have seen every combination of weather and habitat I think is possible. Where are you located?

See? The memory is the second thing to go on a man. I don't remember what the first was.

    Are you staying home?

A friend and I hunted near Pierre, SD and Mobridge, SD last October. Tough hunting in areas we were familiar with. Gas prices didn't help either. Then a group of us hunted Great Bend, KS in late November. Again, tough. Then, just to show we were gluttons for punishment, we hunted GB in late...

So, it might have been longer. As we get older, 5 years is actually 10. Look for the year where the estimated pheasant harvest was only 155,000 and that is the year I am talking about. And the propaganda was an email. I read and deleted it. I was afraid the BS would stink up my computer.

Has anybody ever tried these shells?

Shoot some and then form your opinion. My wife got me some in 10 ga for geese a few years ago. The stuff is wicked and the range far exceeds that of lead. I have not used any upland hunting, but using it in both 10 and 12, I am a believer.

As an aside, try NoRoma odor eliminator if bowser chews on a stinky. You will have to contact the manufacturer for a local source. http://threeleafinc.com/ Very benign copper based deodorant that works on all organic odors. A friend of mine had his lab hosed down by a skunk. He was driving...

Hunting With bow on City-owned watershed hunting areas

Check the local regs. I live in a university town that allows the use of BB and pellet guns on vermin, but prohibits SHOOTING a bow in city limits.

I use the Lewis dog boots as needed. http://lewisdogboot.com/ Some dogs need them, most don't, but I always tell members of our group to get them and have them ready at the first sign of a problem. They can keep you in the field versus cutting the trip short because of lame dogs.

Free roosters? Laughingly that sounds like government math. If you want to scare yourself, calculate the per pound cost of those birds using total expenditures divided by the number of pounds of free roosters you shot. It will scare you. One of our party hunted a week in KS a long time ago...

    Kansas Run

At the worst of the drought about 5 years ago, KDWPT advertised that they had more than 200,000 acres of prime ground LOADED with birds. They sort of forgot to tell us that it was all in shooting preserves with released birds. I had hunted KS for 38 years and the involvement of tourism in the...

    Howard Vincent retiring from PF

Personally, I wish Vincent, PF and QF well. I was secretary for a QU chapter in southwest Ohio and saw what I considered greed in the hierarchy of that organization and their attempt to perpetuate that when they tried to consolidate QU and PF. Vincent was the one who said no. We left QU and...

Considering that Quail Unlimited has been defunct for 20 years, yeah, DU does more than them.
