Wasn’t necessarily directing at you, AtTheMurph, just providing an alternative to the other participant(s) that you had wisely cautioned…sorry to condescend, my good fellow…😂 No effort expended, 2 seconds of my time? I’ll let you command this discussion, it would appear it’s in good hands with...

RSP is an ETF that is an equally-weighted version of the S & P 500 if you’re concerned about the normal S & P 500’s top 10 holdings making up about 32% of the portfolio…

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

Whether you can or not, I was simply referencing where I hunt in ND…I quit hunting Canada 20 years ago, waterfowl, too much bs for me. Bucket list hunt for me would be September prairie hunt in SK/AB….doubt I’ll do it, we do well in our current locales…

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

Sometimes people aren’t confident in ID’ng roosters…this guy may have suffered from that. Frustration kicks in at times…long shots for the hell of it, whatever..,

Just researched fastballs, they get to the plate in as little as .4 seconds…

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

Different scenario, kind of, but good baseball hitters have extraordinary eyesight…they can discern much about the pitch thrown early in the release, often at 100 mph…I calculated that a clay pigeon thrown at 42 mph travels 60’ in a second…so, a pitch at 84 mph should get to the plate in half a...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

The bird is the object, obviously, and we get pretty good at using that to judge distance…sure, some birds are bigger or smaller, but I’d say 90% of the roosters I shoot are fairly similar. At present, I have no big issue of any sort with my rooster killing capabilities…knowing where to find...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

I think after lots and lots of pheasant hunting we get fairly adept at recognizing “the whole enchilada” and have a pretty good idea pretty quickly…or not. Once in a while I kick myself for not shooting, but I rarely shoot at a bird that’s too far away and kick myself for that…that pretty much...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

It varies, of course, but the more you practice yardage estimating the better you get at it. I used to shoot archery a lot, shot at 10, 20, 30, 40 yards…was fairly decent at estimating yardage because of that. All you can do is do your best, hopefully err on the side of not taking overly...

My main hunting partner and I guess at various objects and walk them off pretty often

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

As a point of reference, it’s 20 yards from the plate to the mound, 30 yards to first base, and about 42 yards from the plate to 2nd base, the same distance between first and third. I haven’t been on a Diamond in a while, gonna do it sometime for kicks to eyeball the different distances. I...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

I shot LOTS of SD roosters past 40 yards this season with my IC choked guns typically using #5 lead, standard velocity loads…works for me…not preserves, rarely pointed…but it’s not uncommon to get close flushes, either…I could see using LM choke, or even M…just haven’t been persuaded by my...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

If I understand trap: the target starts at about 42 mph, 16 yards away, goes basically straight away, and is about 4” across and about 3/4” deep…very small target traveling very fast, probably never being broken much closer than 30 yards…never gonna come at me, or give me a crossing shot…and...

    How many shells?

I always assume the fewer shells I’m carrying, the more opportunities I’ll have, and vice versa…but I tend to carry too many shells, especially on potentially longer walks…

    How many shells?

Usually 20-25….if I’m in SD with a group, 25+….I shot 6-8 birds several times this season, and probably had a miss or two each day…may have shot at 10 birds +/- several days this year…I sometimes resupply once or twice during the day, depending.

    Land prices.

A lot of times the wife works for the health insurance, not to mention the extra income. The #’s that a farmer contends with are astronomical…starting with the land. If you’re not born into it, hard to imagine making a go of it. The farm family I’m closest to farms ground that the deceased...

    Land prices.

Think one of my farmer friends who I talk with routinely told me corn had recently broken through $4…was double that not that long ago, which served to set cash rental rates, land prices, etc. Tough stuff…lots of decisions on a very regular basis. I couldn’t do it.

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

I have generally taken a path of least resistance approach to most of this stuff; been hunting a lot for the past 31 seasons. Mainly 2 guns, a Montefeltro for 23 years, and a Benelli Ultralight the past 8. Both 12 gauges. IC chokes 97% of the time. Lead #5 shot 95% of the time, many...
