    Poor man’s quail

Actually coat heavily with Cajun seasoning and deep fry. Excellent tailgating appetizer. Try it.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

If you had not witnessed the high line death, would it still have happened? Every day it does somewhere and the warden doesn’t care how, just not you in possession. Remember, the dog ate my homework.

    Tripping or Falling

Falling, face bleeding, branch slaps, humility are just part of the pursuit of grouse and woodcock in WI. Just takes longer to heal Al.

Help on a special kind of wild pheasant.

I held a bird shot in Iowa by a friend that had the body coloration of a tan hen and the neck and head coloration of a typical rooster. Long tail and spurs. Mutants do occur naturally.

    Ditch/Road Hunting. IMPORTANT-MUST READ

    Tripping or Falling

Like Toby sang, don’t let the old man in, especially in the morning. Be careful out there. When ruffed grouse hunting, if I’m not bleeding, I’m not having fun.

    Winter boots-Schnee Hunter II

I’ve had mine for five years and no complaints. Ice fishing and bird hunting are my primary uses. Schnees made an upland boot too, but no longer made. Good review Mosby.

Warmest supple gloves for 15 degree weather

Winter golf gloves are NOT the answer unless you are hunting outside Palm Springs. Anybody try heated gloves? Brand?

    Coming from Canada

Hunting near any road must be considered dangerous for the dog, unless on a leash. Dogs just do what dogs do. I have personally seen trucks flying by on those Class B roads. It is reward vs. risk. My son witnessed a tragedy like that in western MN. He just met the guy in the parking lot of some...

    How tough are these birds?

Three examples of toughness in a rooster. Just west of town I shot a rooster that flew strong and died in flight. Upon exam, he only had one leg that had been removed from some trauma and not recently. The leg was severed just above the spur at the joint. Long tail and long spur probably the...

    How tough are these birds?

Nope heart or lungs, bleed out. Seen it in every upland bird I hunt, never in waterfowl.

    Retirement hunt

When I die, my dogs will meet me at a new world. I heard that there was no closed season and no limits, shoot and release.

Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

It’s not easy taking off frozen pants and nothing I’d recommend practicing. Early ice guys are usually cautious.
