    Uninsulated Boots??

Most of my boots are uninsulated but I have found the right socks make every boot more comfortable. If it's below 20* and I hunt all day in cotton socks my feet will get cold when traveling between spots or we quit for the day. If I wear a good pair of wool blend socks that doesn't happen.

    What's in your vest?

I feel I've been pretty fortunate that since I've been carrying that stuff I've never has to use the real first aid stuff, I.E. tourniquet or blood stopper. But I've seen some pretty gruesome injuries before I had that stuff with me and I could have used it. On opening day of pheasant seaso...

    Saying Goodbye

I’m so sorry for your loss, losing a dog is like losing a family member. I thought it was funny that she would see your Brit point and go charging over to flush. I’ve had some Welsh Spring Spaniels that do the same thing, they watch my GSP’s and when they point here comes the Welshie brigade...

    USMC Danner boots

I don’t know what a “normal” price would be for that boot, but a USA made Danner boot like the Grouse is $380. Their Chinese boots are cheaper but the ones made in the USA are significantly higher. These boots are made in the USA. I have ordered from that website a bunch of times and haven’t...

K-9 Komfort No Slip Grip 76" Lead/Leash - Anyone interested?

I bought two of these from Chestle, they are high quality and a very nice leash! Much better quality than you would find most places for the same amount of money.

    USMC Danner boots

Not sure if anyone is interested but there are some American made USMC Danner boots available and at a great price Here. There are both insulated and non-insulated versions available albeit in limited sizes now. I bought a pair and hunted in them almost everyday last year as I rotated between...

    Inheritance

I had an old friend in his late 80’s that I hunted with. He loved to see my dogs point roosters and he killed a couple the last time we hunted together. He was 87 at that time and told me he wanted me to have his old Belgium Browning A-5 12 gauge since his kids didn’t hunt and wanted nothing...

    Crate temperature monitor.

When I first bought my DeerCreek box I bought a Lacrosse indoor/outdoor thermostat and placed the sensor in the box. It lasted a couple years and then quit. By then I had a Garmin Astro so I bought a Garmin Tempe but it only lasted a couple of years as well. What I learned was I didn’t need...

    Which Barrel First For Over/Under

I’ve been shooting double trigger SxS’s for at least 15 years. The front trigger usually fires the right or more open choked barrel first. I’ve never had a double because I pulled both triggers at the same time! Most doubles occur because of mechanical issues when the recoil causes the second...

    O/U Oil And Grease

I always put a light film of high quality grease on the hinge or truncheons, whichever you have AND on the rounded part of the receiver where it mates with the forearm. I’ve seen more than one Browning Citori gauld in that area during high volume shooting!

    Preferred 20 Gauge Shell

I think I paid less than $20 per box for the Hevi Hammer that I bought for my wife last fall, six boxes will last her the rest of her life! I did find them on sale.

    Preferred 20 Gauge Shell

I bought some of the Hevi Hammer 3" 20 ga for my wife for hunting in SD. These. It is easier to give her just one shell to hunt everything and everywhere than to try to make sure she didn't have lead in a place where she shouldn't. They seemed to work really well for her from her Franchi...

    Preferred 20 Gauge Shell

I think Briley chokes are a step up from factory chokes but I’m not a fan of ported chokes, especially when I’m off to the side of someone shooting them.

    Preferred 20 Gauge Shell

Since you ordered your shotgun from Scheels you might consider. These. They are made by Fiocchi and I have had good luck with them in 20 gauge. I’m sure your Scheels store will have some in stock.

Should I feel bad cutting a stock?

I would say buy it and shoot it. 5/16" is not much additional lenght and while a 15" LOP is my prescribed lenght, I have a 15 1/2" that I shoot really well! I doubt that you will even noyive that additional length.

Nebraska Legislature Considers Raiding Game Fund

I received one of the canned emails back from Erdman telling me that if I wanted a state senator to pay attention I should craft my own email instead of using one filled with grammatical errors. He said the only way the G&P would get better was by taking money from them so they would have to...

    Tools?

I carry an InReach device, Leatherman multi tool, Felco cutters, zip ties for traps, short length of paracord, CAT tourniquet, blood stopper gauze and other first aid products in a small zippered tool bag. I have been involved in EMS for over 40 years and just an observation for those who say...

    Chicken fried.

My first wife made pheasant nuggets for our kids. She cut the breast into 1/2” pieces, soaked them in milk and egg, breaded them with cracker crumbs and fried them up. The kids would gorge themselves until there were no more left.
