    new dog vest

Dog vests are a waste of money or regular use unless you have a dog that has recently whelped pups or you're in some extreme conditions like heavy snow that warrant the use. Dogs are tough like football players, don't be fooled. My experience is you see a lot more versatile breed dog owners...

    20g s x s barrel length?

24" and no more than 26". Key is the gun balance. too short, depending on the gun, you have to work too hard to get the barrel down. Personally, I would stay away from anything that exceeds 26".

How do you run a dog on public land in the offseason

States often times will declare nesting season date ranges and others address chasing game in season and out of season. I would read the regs and if it's not clear, call your local conservation agent and ask.

    Good read

Thanks for sharing. I can certainly think and look back to the hey days and see why. Less pasture and disturbed soil problematic. It explains much of my success and/or failure in today's farming practice environment.

    Thinking at changing breeds

If you're open to any pointing breed I would recommend you get an English Pointer or Setter. Hands down the bloodlines within the breed can serve the most particular of owner. Quite frankly the other pointing breeds can offer some good dog prospects, but not near the natural bird finding...

    Dog Vest or No Vest?

Only if coming off of surgery, had pups recently or simply raw from heavy snow. Otherwise, unnecessary.

How are things shaping up for the hatch?

Here in Missouri, seeing some bumble bee size chicks. About 1-2 weeks old so things setting up nicely at this point. I checked with the guy I hunt on on central Kansas and he was still unsure of how things were progressing.

After Tgiving I will be spending the next 3 weeks between NE/NC Missouri and then to Kansas after their deer season chasing birds. Two buddies and 8 dogs ready to cut fields all day. Will post here some on how it's going and would like to hear about others as well.

    Finding Any Birds?

The snow of late has made things a litte tough, but seeing bird numbers similar to last year. ~3 coveys per 2-3 hours in the field. Good size coveys that allow you to chase some singles. How are the rest of you doing now that deer season is over?

    Findings Birds?

North East and North Central Missouri is dry and with warm temperatures so is anyone having much luck finding and getting birds pointed currently? Very early in the morning and very late in the afternoon are when we are getting the majority of our birds pointed? Been pounding some awesome...
