    vizslas and birds

I took the dogs running again today and brought the camera along as well. Nittany and Blitz had some points in the switch grass but we couldn't produce a bird. After many relocations a hen flushed about 100 yards away from the first point. I was able to get a picture of the flushing bird. I...

    February run

I had chance to run the dogs today and with the temps in the mid 60's it wasn't a typical Feb. day. The dogs enjoyed being out and found a group of 6 quail that ended up flushing from the field and into the woods. I wasn't able to get a picture of them this time. A few minutes later the dogs...

Does anybody have big plans for the late season? Those of you who live in the northern part of the state have some late season options. Since there is no late season where I live for pheasant and grouse are in short supply (if there is a supply) I'll be doing some preserve hunts. One of last...

    Pheasants I raised

A sportsmen's club that I belong to gets day old chicks from the PGC each spring and I was asked to take care of them. I posted about survival rates of chicks several months ago. The chicks did well and grew into good looking birds. I had planned to do a weekly release of birds so members of...

Who's going to hunt in the snow?

Looks like we are to get some snow in the area on Saturday. Who's going out to chase some birds around? I'm planning on going in the morning but it may be raining at that time and not have changed over to snow yet. I prefer to hunt in snow instead of rain.

    Evening run

Took the dogs out for a little evening run and they ended up with a couple of points. A bird was in the switchgrass. This one was on the edge of the woods. Looking forward to the day I can carry the gun instead of the camera. The pictures were taken with my phone and are not the best.

    Cats

It seems that the worst pest I have that take out my quail that I have in a johnny house are the @#!# cats. A property near by feeds the cats but they come and look at the quail like its a buffet. I see hawks flying around, hear the owls and know there are foxes but its the cats that do the...

    multiple johnny houses

Has anybody used multiple johnny houses for quail? I have one johnny house set up and I was wondering if I set up another one a 1/4 mile away would the birds go back and forth to each house? There would be enough cover between the houses to offer the birds protection.

    Predator proof johnny house

I need some help trying to make my johnny house more predator proof. I have a recall funnel at the base with a door to cover the funnel up at night. The problem is if I get to the johnny house too late one time a mink or weasel might get in and take out my quail. I had this happen over the...
