I ran across this pic and had to post

Beautiful picture and beautiful dog! I'm really hoping I can get away for a couple hunts this year, just me and the dogs, with as little human interaction as possible.

    Rain is coming! I think.

I bought a new mower last Spring for my half acre lot. I have 5.3 hours on it.

    Hen! Hen! Rooster!

A few days ago I was on the recliner, watching a pheasant hunt on YouTube. One of my Springers was asleep on my lap. One of the guys in the video yelled "rooster!" Berkley shot up, muscles all tense, looking around for the bird...apparently I yell "rooster", even though I mostly hunt alone?

    Suggestions on a lighter gun

I bought a Franchi Affinity 3 compact from Reeds when I was up in Walker last week. They knocked a little over $100 off the price and I didn't even ask for a discount. If you're going to buy from Reeds, I would call and see what kind of deal you can get, rather than buying online.

    Water retrieve on a rooster

I was hunting a public WMA in Nebraska last November. It was insanely windy. Up to this point neither of my young Springers had a chance at a water retrieve. Sure enough, I dumped a bird in the lake and the wind was carrying it away from shore at a rapid pace. Just as I thought there was no...

New member from North Florida via Wisconsin 40+ years ago!

Welcome to the forum! We have a couple shooting preserves in my area, but I am not aware of anyone nearby who guides for wild pheasants. Feel free to message me if you'd like. I'm certainly no expert, but I will help you out if I can.

    Still dry here

The family farm in Nebraska got 3" this week, things are looking really good over there. We didn't get anywhere near that around home. Kids baseball got rained out in Lemars tonight. Rain got to within a few miles of us and stopped...again.

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

Fleet Farm in Sioux City and Runnings in Vermillion have been very high priced. Scheels is selling Kent Fastlead 1 1/4 oz loads for $10 a box less than Fleet Farm.

    Chick sighting thread?

My folks saw a hen today on the path going to their pond. Dad said she had at least 8 chicks with her. They live in Northeast NE.

    Cutting costs this year?

I was up that way Saturday. I think they were around $4.69.

    Cutting costs this year?

$5 gas won't stop me. If it pushes towards $10, my plans for a couple out of state hunts may have to wait. I'm an Iowa resident with a lifetime Nebraska small game permit. I hunt a lot of public land in Iowa. My parents have a couple hundred acres of good pheasant ground in Nebraska that is a 70...

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

I would not have thought to look there either, but I will from now on. A coworker saw them and bought them for me. Wish they would've had more!

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

I picked up 3 sleeves of CCI 209 primers at the local Bomgaars for a little over $5 each. I was pretty happy with that. Just wish they would've had more.

    New strap vest

I was in dire need of a vest before last season. Apparently I added a few pounds during my two decades away from bird hunting, and my old vest didn't fit. The year before I used a fleece big game vest. It was hot and heavy! In looking for a new vest, I found nothing in stock, in stores or...

    Feelin' Lucky!

Good deal! I have an invite to hunt east/central Montana this December. Goose hunt in the morning and pheasant hunt in the afternoon. The group hunts along the Yellowstone River, so I'm not sure how this runoff will affect things.

Sorry to hear. We've been there. It hurts.

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

The Sioux Falls Scheels store was well stocked with quality 20 gauge loads today. Their rimfire ammo was 10% off, and some of it was even clearance priced. Both Sioux Falls and Sioux City Scheels have 12 gauge ,1 1/4 oz. Kent Fastlead for $16.99/box, and the Scheels branded pheasant loads for...

    Birds for training?

I know it may be a little early yet, but does anyone have a lead on where a guy could buy a few gamebirds to train with? I'd prefer chukar, but I'd take just about anything I could get right now. Pigeons would be fine, too. I'm in the Sioux City area, but would be willing to travel.

    Your favorite pheasant O/U

I shoot a Browning Cynergy. I can't remember what the exact model is, but it does have very nice wood. Its not the lightest gun I have, but its the one I shoot the least worst! Please excuse the dirty stock in this pic. My guns are normally very clean, this pic was taken after several...
