    Still some birds on WIHA

A buddy and I went and hunted some walk-in today in Central Kansas. The first field of the morning we saw two roosters, 4 hens, a nice covey of quail and 3 prairie chickens. We hunted another couple hours and didn't see much other than a hen or two. Then we walked the last field just before...

    Weather

It's that time of year when I really start paying attention to the weather. Got on to weather.com today and man, Opening Weekend looks pretty good! Chance of rain in Southwest Kansas next Thursday and temps are in the upper 50's and lows in the upper 20's for Opener. I know it's Kansas and...

    Eating grass

This has probably been talked about on here before, but what's the reason that dogs will eat grass? I switched food here in the past couple of weeks and I've noticed my two shorthairs are acting like billy goats. Guess it cuts down on mowing. Just curious as to what's going on? Thanks, KansasGsp

    Kansas Governor's Pheasant Hunt

Was looking on-line this morning and ran across an article on Sam Brownback and he was saying that if he's elected he will start the Kansas Governor's Pheasant Hunt, similar to what South Dakota has. Pretty neat to see him talking about pheasant hunting.

    Too Old???

I've bred my 10 year old shorthair 3 times now and I've have a buddy that wants to breed him one more time to his female. My question is, is he too old? Thanks, KansasGsp

    English Pointers

I've always hunted behind Shorthairs and I currently own two right now. My oldest is 10 and doesn't have too many seasons left in him so I've started planning ahead for when he's done hunting. I really like Shorthairs, but I've always wanted to own and English Pointer. I've been doing some...

    How did you get hooked?

Got too warm this afternoon to hunt, so I ended up moving a combine about 15 miles from one field to another for my father in-law. Sitting on a tractor is a lot like sitting on the toilet meaning it's a great time for one to think about things. I know there's a lot of you like me that are...

    Good Thanksgiving Day Hunt

I had a great hunt this morning around Ulysses. I started hunting around 8 and shot my 4th bird about 10am. Almost all the crops are cut and the bird population is very high. The birds are very spooky and we're in need of some cooler weather. Any grass beside cut corn held birds and where...

    Youth hunt/rattlesnake

My father in-law who owns Kansas Ringnecks (Ulysses) had 30 youth out to his hunting preserve Saturday. They split the kids into 3 groups of 10 and had a pheasant field/chukar field/and quail field. The kids had a blast and did a very good job with gun safety. One group ran into a...

    Roosters Harvested???

For those of you that keep journals like I do or just a ballpark number, how many roosters do you harvest a year? I've got 37 this year. My best year was two years ago with 59. My hunting buddies and I were wondering what's the most that you know of someone shooting in a year? We thought...
