They’re common on WIHAs near metropolitan areas, mostly in the eastern part of the state. I’ve never seen any out west where I hunt.

Same. I’d love to go hunt the north woods for ruffs. The prospect of wolves getting my labs scares me though.

I hunt my own land for bobwhites, in prime quail country. I’m about an hour away from pheasant country. My favorite place to go is about 4 hours away, which is no big deal for a weekend hunt.

Take no prisoners! I hope to get after some quail in between ducks and deer here in southeast Kansas.

Very well said. I will be re-reading this throughout the season. I think you sum it up very nicely. While some years may result in more birds in the bag than others; pheasant hunting in Kansas is an experience. One I wouldn’t trade for any other.

Anxious to hear how y’all do! There’s certainly a lot of excitement about Iowa pheasant hunting this year. I pray that everyone has a safe, successful, and blessed season. Two more weeks until our pheasant and quail season opens here in Kansas. Until then it’s waterfowl and deer for me.

The report on quail in southeast Kansas sure isn’t consistent with what I and others have been seeing in my area. I’ll be out there regardless, and will enjoy it whether I get into a lot of birds, or just a few.

For the experience? Absolutely! I wouldn’t trade my time out in western Kansas for anything. Sometimes I get lucky and bring home a few birds, too! ;)

I don’t hunt them in the fall, but I have pleasantly been seeing a bunch of birds around. They finally had a good hatch in my AO this year.

Getting some healthy rains out in the far west now. They needed it.

Once in a very blue moon, I’ll see one in Chautauqua county.
