    Merry Christmas

Hunted 4 of the last 5 days with my son. We saw plenty of birds and got a fair number of roosters. Unseasonably warm but the birds were quite bunched up because there was a cold snap a week ago. Great way to spend Christmas!

    Saw another 105# dog.

I have seen a 120 # lab that was not overweight. He was a very big dog. I have seen a 105 # Weimaraner that was not overweight. He was a big dog. I have seen a 230# Great Dane that probably should have weighed slightly less. I have seen many 100 # dogs that were not a 100 #s. I have seen 70 #...

    Rabbits

Mine don't chase rabbits or deer. Steady to flush. Steady to shot. Not Steady to fall but can be stopped if it's another dog's retrieve.

    Rabbits

Don't shoot anything on the ground , the dogs are way faster then most people's reflexes.

    Saw another 105# dog.

Easier to give the dog a treat then take it for a walk.

    Saw another 105# dog.

Dog may have been 90 #'s but at least it was probably only 10 overweight. What is the fascination with 100 pounders?

When was the golden age of pheasant hunting?

I was always told the late 50's. That's why many my dad's age would say there are no birds around in the 80's when I was getting heavy into pheasant hunting. I always countered with this is hunting you guys were harvesting.

    Hunted in the fog

My son is back for Xmas so we went hunting this afternoon and plan on doing all week. Very foggy out this afternoon and no sun to melt frost off the grass. We got soaked but did manage a bird each. He was happy to get out and glad he connected on his 1 chance. First place we hunted is private...

Is there a reason for your dog's name?

The Big Delio. Reba for Reba McIntyre. Willie for silly willie.

    Land prices.

CREP in S.Dak can match that so of course that pisses off local farmers who may lose ground.

    Future of CRP ?

To add to this the big box stores cater more to deer hunters then us bird hunters. Deer guys take wildlife for granted as the whitetails thrive. Maybe the virus issue will create some interest in conservation on their side.

Hunted a hour with my friend on his private ground. He ran his gsp and vdd while a ran 2 of my weims. Pictures are from after we limited out. We probably saw a 100 birds out in this lighter cover. They have a couple small corn food plots and birds were all around them. We started out in heavy...

Old roosters are tough, or tough roosters are old?

The biggest toughest rooster i ever bagged had black legs and long black spurs. Got 2 birds today and check out the spur on this 1. Dark tip and needle sharp.

    Wind

We hunted last 90 minutes. It was windy but at 28° it wasn't terrible. We each got 2 and should have had our 6. 2 guys 4 dogs private ground. Birds weren't in the sweet clover as we thought they would be.

Old roosters are tough, or tough roosters are old?

I cooked up some Dirty rice and while it was simmering I had chunks of pheasants and diced orange and red peppers frying up in a 1/2 stick of butter. 1 quick grind of seasalt and garlic. When the rice was finished I blended the pheasant in and let it rest for 5 minutes. Awesome! Took the...

    Tripping or Falling

If you aren't occasionally falling down you are spending too much time blocking. There is reason why I have had 6 butt stocks on my old 870. A few years back I broke my ankle in Febuary. Due to heart issues it was 6 weeks before my ankle was operated on. That fall I fell 6 times in the first...

3 days of hunting for our guests.

I wish they wouldn't talk but I realize the guys are having a good time together. Some of the dog guys have guided at preserves and they aren't as quiet as I would like them to be. I do realize that guiding they need to entertain clients not just walk them around.
