Given the forecast of extreme winds tomorrow how would you plan your day?

I always seem to struggle to find birds on these extremely windy days. For the locals, yes the best option might be to stay home but when you only have 5 days you gotta give it a go.

Uh, strong wind. A whole different experience. They get up and are gone in a second...most of the time, once in a while, one try's to buck the wind and is an almost stationary target. I hope your temps are above freezing. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Add: I guess I have never not found them where they are normally. The cover I hunt is tall and thick, so buried down it that, the wind might just not be an issue for them. Maybe knee high grass is a different story.

Tree rows, cedar trees, cattails, the back side of hills that are protected from the wind.

they’ll use the road and a deep ditch as a wind bread, or those little scrub willows

Trees & thickets. They'll go out of their way to get out of the wind.

Today was windy,we lost 2.Birds were in thick trees.My young lab seems to be in them,then stops,and I don't know why.My 11 year old is keeping up,but she lost one yesterday,had it but let it go, disappeared in the cattails.Thick trees,cattails, buffalo brush,wind avoiders.

Just got back from SD. We hunted one day in 25-40 mph winds. Found them in thick shelterbelts, cattails and deep roadside ditch surrounded by cattails. Worked out pretty good for us.

Find areas that aren't windy. I can't tell you how often on a super windy day, I'll get down into a ravine or the backside of some cattails and I can feel that the wind is gone and then the pheasants flush.

Wind sketches out all wildlife. There is no real great answer, just get out and do it. Good luck.

We hunted last 90 minutes. It was windy but at 28° it wasn't terrible. We each got 2 and should have had our 6.
2 guys 4 dogs private ground. Birds weren't in the sweet clover as we thought they would be.

Thanks to all that gave advice. Day went about like I figured unfortunately. Was getting skunked until i was trudging back across a pasture with knee high grass 10 minutes before sunset. For some reason there were 2 birds hanging out and one let me get a little to close. I hunted shelterbelts almost exclusively just because I didn’t want to fight the wind myself. Problem with that is it’s almost impossible for one guy to ever get a shot on a bird as they just run or fly out the other side. That’s why is called hunting and not killing though right? It’s all good though, I saw new country, didn’t go to work and spent another day in the field with my dogs.
