With all due respect, to me this is not a political issue. But rather an issue of animal cruelty and lack of understanding on how to train a dog.

Interesting how a Minnesota dog trainer gets arrested for killing a hard-to-train dog, but a Governor does essentially the same thing with no repercussions.

BB, I also use the Orvis ones and agree they work well. Even in the grouse woods, these won’t come out accidentally.

I hunted sharptail in Sept near Wing. Didn’t see any pheasants driving around the area at all

Been at it for nearly 50 years. In my opinion, early season conditions have been trending warmer overall. I agree with most commenters these warmer temps (over 70 degrees) are simply not worth the risk to our dogs.

So, how warm do you feel is too warm to safely hunt your dog in cover (grouse woods or crop)?

I spent the last few days putting on 2,374 miles trying to find this spot. Gravel road, corn, stop sign and roadkill. Found it! Can’t wait until opening morning at the Horse and Hunt club!

Been sharptail hunting in ND for several years. Great way to start the season. Only down side is the likelyhood of heat. Always hard to remember when you flush a covey; one of the birds closest to you is often the last to flush!

Woodcock are a far more forgiving bird than a grouse for pointing dogs to learn on. Not a big difference for flushers, though. Right now is prime time for their spring migration north in states like PA, MN and WI.

Thanks for the info. Both dogs are 45# setters. Currently use 30” long kennels. Happy Easter!
