Kansas Trespassing Fee for Private Land

No I don't lease an acre and never have. My brother and I own 7000 acres total and have never received a penny in lease money. And yes I do let people hunt although my attitude has been soured to strangers from some of the bs I have read on here. I also own 2 half sections in Finny County and a...

Kansas Trespassing Fee for Private Land

I have 700 acres in CRP and I would not enroll if public access were tied to it. I am not alone, I don't know any landowners that would. I also have 240 acres in the wetland reserve program and the same goes for that.

This would be good if it happens.

Actually it could happen, at least adding more crp acres. I am hearing rumblings that farm programs will be geared towards CO2 sequestration, and CRP is on of the things being tossed around along with cover crops, no till ect. Working the ground releases CO2, growing crops or other plants store...

    Unfriendly Kansas. What's happened here?

Railroad right of ways are 66 feet wide from the center of the tracks. So 33 feet each direction. We have a railroad running through 2 of our farms and I have always hunted along it with no issues. It is against the law however...

    Opening Weekend

I agree. I hunt alone or with one other person almost exclusively and prefer to hunt big open patches. The small patches get hunted a lot more. Just follow the dogs even if you think they are going the wrong way. When I hunted WIHA the bigger the patch the more likely I was to hunt it. A lot of...

    crp acres accepted by state

Kansas got 450,000 or 97 percent of the acres offered accepted in the last general signup. https://www.fsa.usda.gov/Assets/USDA-FSA-Public/usdafiles/Conservation/PDF/SU54StateAcceptancewithPercentages.pdf

What I saw last week out west.

So I went out to put up a trail cam on my farm in Finney County last week. I drove around in the evening and morning in parts of Ness, Lane, Ford and Finney counties. One thing I noticed is a lot of the birds I saw were very young, like barely able to fly. A couple friends told me there are a...

Why farming is the way it is today

I have been reading some of the post on farming, and some wanting an explanation why we do what we do. I kind of hijacked another thread so thought I would start a new one. Let me start by saying nobody loves to hunt more than me. I spend about 3 weeks a year in western Kansas hunting...

    Here we come

I am finally getting a chance to make my second trip of the year. A friend and I have the truck loaded and are leaving for a week in Dodge to shoot some roosters. It looks like the weather will be a little warmer than I would like, but at least it won't be below 0.

New farm bill adds 3 million crp acres.

The new farm bill will increase CRP acres from 24 million to 27 million acres. It is a step in the right direction.

Headed out for my annual birthday hunt.

I am loading the pickup getting ready to head out for my annual birthday hunt. Three friends and I will be leaving here from Colony when they get here around 5 or so. This is the only time I hunt with 4 people but these guys are good friends and we do it every year. We will be staying in Dodge...

    my new hunting companion

After hunting Gordon's only for 25 years I am going to start running a pointer with them. My family had hunted English Pointers for 2 generations before I started with Gordons. Here is my new dog, Xtreme's Copper Jewell or Jewell. She is 13 months old, I have had her a week, and she has already...

    A good day quail hunting

It's nice to see the birds coming back. I moved 7 coveys in three hours. My 3 year old Gordons Miss Kitty and Festus pointed and retrieved all 8. I didn't take any field pics because I was hunting by myself and my dogs give me dirty looks if a bird they have pointed flies away while I'm messing...

    confused prairie chicken

This is a lone prairie chicken along the edge of a county black top road. He has been in this exact spot for 2 days. I haven't seen a chicken within 2 miles of where he is in 20 years. I think he may have a screw loose. I hope he don't get run over...

First limit with Miss Kitty and Festus

Took my pups out today and managed to limit out on the quail. It's been a long time since we've had quail numbers like this in the area.
