4 of us traveling on Sunday…hunting mon-wed, maybe thur…warm temps melted some snow yesterday, 3-4” forecasted sat with strong wind…birds bunched again, I’m sure…looked at SD 511 and saw my area via the highway cameras…not too bad at this point…lows around 16-25 and highs 30-40 on hunting days…not too bad…some knee high drifts I suspect but once in the cover shouldn’t be too bad…no real snow issues 3-4 days ago, decent melting since then…E/SE SD not too bad…look at the SD 511 camera shots…👍 current forecasted low temps for mon-wed are 20, 26, 21…not bad for the low temps….

I am going somewhere on the Saturday after Christmas and was hoping that the snow would be manageable. I contemplated North Dakota but that’s a long drive this time of year. Not as much snow up there but you pay for it with the cold.

We were supposed to leave this morning, but pushed it back 2 days. Freezing sleet and ice, and then 2inches of snow then 50 MPH gusts tomorrow, we will go out Saturday during the freeze, probably not hunt much that day maybe a little road hunts, quick in and out. Im sure we will go out and freeze our butts off on Sunday, but really looking forward to Monday - Wed

I was going to try the week of new years where i normally hunt, but advanced weather reports have been very random. So I have shifted to going to Nebraska and chase quail and pheasants.

Just got back from the eastern half of the state. The last few days were interesting. Rain/sleet/snow...and ice. So much ice.

Went the same route last weekend, wasted our time hunting in Nebraska. Unless you have private land to hunt it’s a waste of time, at least where we were. I have heard southwest has a few birds but nothing like it use to be.

Snow basically gone in my area of E/SE SD…I saw 53 degrees Tuesday, and low to mid 40’s Monday and today…excellent hunting. My 11 month old keeps progressing beyond my expectations…much fun! Hunted with a dogless buddy of mine who hasn’t been out in 15+ years, and 2 friends of his with good dogs who were good hunters and good shots…things went very well, had a terrific hunt with no issues or drama…ate well, dogs all got along, hunters were safe and responsible in all aspects of the hunt. Not many hunters out, but Sunday was pretty brutal….don’t know that I saw another hunter vehicle since Sunday,

I hunted "near" Huron 12/14 - 12/16 it was just the dogs and I. It was fantastic! Hoodie and vest, lots of birds flushed and enough were in range;). Tuesday I told myself I was going to only hunt "new to me" public land, we rode the struggle bus all day. Around 4:30 one rooster kept me from a goose egg for the day. But it was still fantastic!
