Are pheasants supposed to fall when you shoot?
November in Montana was very hot and dry,so I get what you are saying. All I can say is that if I had to live off what I've shot this year I would be damn hungry! I knocked some birds down that I couldn't find because the cover is so thick and it's been so hot and dry and not very good scenting conditions for my dogs
Hopefully it works for you! As Gim says, pheasants are like beach balls. Nothing like a ruffed in the aspen stands. That has always been my downfall. I almost always shoot my Citori 16 and it pops up almost too fast. I think I am going to try that set up and try and slow down a bit.
I have no idea how many pheasants I have had flush close to me over the years. I have been hunting them for nearly 50 years and they still startle the shit out of me and the excitement takes hold. I grew up hunting quail down here and shot hundreds of them when they were thick. I never got the same charge out of a covey flush as I do with a pheasant.Hopefully it works for you! I have some real estate in Florida I will sell you. Nobody shoots like that.
