Retirement gift for me!

Goose, do you know what grade it is? Got any pictures? I have a 1905 12b and a 1944 16b. Both are lower grade guns, but I love shooting pheasants and ducks with them. the 16 is on the left and the 12 is on the right.
The LC Smith I have was my great great grandmothers I think and was made around 1890 and it's a 16 gauge 30-in full no 28 in full modified side by side. It has Damascus barrels. I think it's kind of a mid-grain field model mid-grade field model. It was definitely used a lot for a lot of years. I got it from my grandpa when he moved out of his cabin.

If I see a guy with a Savage, or a gun made by Sears, or JCPenney or whatever you know I just say you know. Come on dude.
It's funny you mention those brands. I have an old Crescent 16ga SxS that I shot for years. My guess is it is a late 1890's gun. The stock head was not tight, it was not tight on face without a lit love tab here and there... As kid growing up though it was a great grouse gun in Michigan woods and even shot a few Kansas pheasants.

I know this is an old thread. But if a person watches the various online auctions and classifieds and Cabelas used gun pages, some steals can be had.

I absolutely love my Rizzini Aurum Light 20. 5# 8oz. Purchased at less than half of new.

I bought this (bottom) German 5#15 oz 16 guage, unmarked, for the cost of a few tanks of fuel in my truck. It has a few warts, but it’s awesome to carry, and I should carry it more. Top one is a Simson 12 for well under $1k.

Cheesy, it sounds like you and I have had the same experiences with buy guns from them. I think they don’t always know what they really have and may not price it accordingly.

Right. The Rizzini was my only Cabelas purchase. Kinda kicking myself for not buying the 12 guage they also had at the sane time. Could have had both for less than 1 new. Saw somebody the other day had bought a clean Pre64 Model 70 for like $500. I might have sold a kid for that one.

I have purchased two from BPS/Cabela's that I did really well on. The first was my 90%+ condition 1905 LC Smith that they had just sitting out on the old used rack on the floor. I walked off with it for $475! The second one was my London made SxS. I had been watching it for a couple years in the gun library in Springfield. One Sunday morning I saw it online for sale and I drove 2hrs to go pick it up. The Library manager told me the Cabela's in Denver had purchased it for $3600 as part of an estate sale about nine years prior. I paid $1249 for it!
