This year I have primarily carried an Impala Plus 24 inch and have really liked it. Very light, patterns great. I shoot it well. Kinda like a poor mans franchi
I had one of those. It was a great gun.Thought I would show what “a go to gun” looks like. I used this shotgun primarily for 30 years. It’s seen a lot of miles and birds.View attachment 10572
For me it was deadly. Made some of my most memorable shots with it.Local gun shop had one of those for reasonable price. Felt good. Everything Ive ever read about them said no one can hit anything with them
Short barrels and straight stock made the balance a little different, but it never bothered me. Mine shot 60/40 which might throw someone off a little if they are used to 50/50. The straight stock hurt my wrist after a couple hundred rounds at the skeet range but that might have just been me.Local gun shop had one of those for reasonable price. Felt good. I'm putting a thumbs down on any gun with less than a 26-in barrel.I think I used six different shotguns this season, and I burned through lots of ammo, some of my ammo was 20 years old.
That 24 inch barrel lost less birds this year than your 26+I'm putting a thumbs down on any gun with less than a 26-in barrel.
My dad has the exact same gun. He's had it since the 80s. Company he worked for at the time allowed people to pick a gift after working for so many years, the Citori was in the catalog and he chose that hahaThought I would show what “a go to gun” looks like. I used to shoot that shotgun so much in the summer you could read “Browning” in the bruise on my shoulder. You know a shotgun is really old if there's no recoil pad lol
What's its tally of eyes shot out?I found my old Daisy Red Ryder the other day. It's so old now you can see the bb come out of it lol. But in its day no gun made a kid feel taller. Many a beer can met its demise down range of that beast. No bird, squirrel, or stray cat was safe in those old wild west days. The stories that gun could tell
Never Ralphy'd myself once somehowWhat's its tally of eyes shot out?
That's funny. Reasonable barrel length doesn't have a lot to do with it. Some of my best years shooting was with a 1100 special field. 23's if I remember correctly. Some maybe on the trap range but not much in the field.I'm putting a thumbs down on any gun with less than a 26-in barrel.
I had one of those that I bought about that same time for roughly that amount. It was my first decent SxS and really my first decent shotgun. I liked it and shot it really well and killed a lot of pheasants, quail, and even a few ducks while jump shooting ponds until some SOB stole it from the front seat of my pickup while parked in front of my house. I was married by then and couldn't afford to replace it at that time. As time went by, my prowess with that gun grew to mythical proportions in my mind and when I could afford to replace it, they had quadrupled in price!SKB 20ga. IC/M 25” barrels. $375 in 1979. Why? Because I hate missing and my dog likes retrieving. Benelli Vinci for waterfowl.
The gun has to fit, no thinking about the shot, just kill it.
