Your "Go-To" gun and why?

This year I have primarily carried an Impala Plus 24 inch and have really liked it. Very light, patterns great. I shoot it well. Kinda like a poor mans franchi

Thought I would show what “a go to gun” looks like. I used this shotgun primarily for 30 years. It’s seen a lot of miles and birds.IMG_5532.jpeg

Local gun shop had one of those for reasonable price. Felt good. Everything Ive ever read about them said no one can hit anything with them

Short barrels and straight stock made the balance a little different, but it never bothered me. Mine shot 60/40 which might throw someone off a little if they are used to 50/50. The straight stock hurt my wrist after a couple hundred rounds at the skeet range but that might have just been me.

I have always believed 60/40 was best for birds. Generally they are always rising. I used that gun for skeet as well. It made station 8 fun from a low gun mount.

I always thought the Winchester 101 Quail Special with the 25-1/2” tubes were optimal.

I found my old Daisy Red Ryder the other day. It's so old now you can see the bb come out of it lol. But in its day no gun made a kid feel taller. Many a beer can met its demise down range of that beast. No bird, squirrel, or stray cat was safe in those old wild west days. The stories that gun could tell
What's its tally of eyes shot out?

I'm putting a thumbs down on any gun with less than a 26-in barrel.
That's funny. Reasonable barrel length doesn't have a lot to do with it. Some of my best years shooting was with a 1100 special field. 23's if I remember correctly. Some maybe on the trap range but not much in the field.

SKB 20ga. IC/M 25” barrels. $375 in 1979. Why? Because I hate missing and my dog likes retrieving. Benelli Vinci for waterfowl.
The gun has to fit, no thinking about the shot, just kill it.
I had one of those that I bought about that same time for roughly that amount. It was my first decent SxS and really my first decent shotgun. I liked it and shot it really well and killed a lot of pheasants, quail, and even a few ducks while jump shooting ponds until some SOB stole it from the front seat of my pickup while parked in front of my house. I was married by then and couldn't afford to replace it at that time. As time went by, my prowess with that gun grew to mythical proportions in my mind and when I could afford to replace it, they had quadrupled in price!
I finally found one a few years ago for about triple what I paid new and took it hunting. I didn't shoot it as well as I remembered and it's now in the safe waiting for my oldest grandson.
