    Solo Approaches

99% of the time I hunt solo. Sometimes it’s hard to cover ground. A lot of the time I just turn the dogs loose and follow them. I’m convinced they are way better at finding birds than I am. I run pointing dogs and they cover a lot of ground for me. I try to hunt fields with an edge of a...

How are the pheasant numbers this year in the SW

Well I went anyway. 2 days 5 birds in the bag. Thursday found decent numbers and limited very early. Today two birds by 8am then birds got very wild. There are birds in small pockets. Numbers are down for sure compared to previous years. Not bad for one guy

How are the pheasant numbers this year in the SW

Kinda what I figured. I don’t care about the money lol. I’m sure I will still leave tomorrow night and hunt until Friday morning. Then head to my favorite area of Kansas until Tuesday or so. It’s an obsession that I can’t control ?.

How are the pheasant numbers this year in the SW

Thinking of coming to Nebraska this week before Kansas opens. I haven’t been since 2017 and had a great time. How are the numbers this year?

So after many years and 100,000 miles it’s time for new chaps. I like my Nitelite caps and will probably order another pair but looking to see what you guys use. Lightweight is a plus.

    Kansas Trip

Any Motel 6 is always dog friendly. The one in Salina looks bad from the outside. But the rooms are always good. Haven't been there in a couple years though. The Lodge in Russell is about as good of hunting hotel as I have ever stayed in. Great rates, good rooms and a nice breakfast. They...

    Central Kansas Report

There really is no harm in saying a near by city. I agree. I don't give cities I hunt near but will to the right couple of people I have pm'd with a few times. Usually have 2-4 pieces around a town that hold birds but may be miles between them.

    Central Kansas Report

North Centeral. From what I can see the bird numbers where I hunted were up and when all the crop comes out it should be better.

    Central Kansas Report

Very few flushes with more than 4-7 birds all weekend. The birds are not bunched up at all.

WOW 2,600 people viewing the Kansas Section!

Yep. Expect half what you read was about spot on. Tough hunting. Lots of corn and milo still in where we hunted. Saw birds driving between areas. They are there but I'm not sure there are a bunch around.

WOW 2,600 people viewing the Kansas Section!

Oh they are not to high. Rule of thumb is take the forecast and expect half what is written. I hunted about 45 days in Kansas last year and had some great days and others that involved miles between shots. There are some birds around from what I have seen scouting but it's not going to be a...
