Mount Pricing

I have been looking as well, as mine retired!! Have 2 old roosters with long spurs and long tails that are going to look great on my wall as soon as I find a Taxidermist I like!!! Around 200 should be the norm!!!! 275 seems steep to me, unless you have some big scene or something!!:cheers:
 
To me, the price depends on the quality of the taxidermist and the work they produce. I don't think $275 would be too high for someone considered a top pheasant taxi. The best mounts I've seen are done by a guy that charges more than that. His mounts are exceptional though and I have yet to see the quality he produces by someone charging under $200.
 
My birds vary depending on type of mount. Commercial birds, going rate is around $135.00-$145.00. Standard for me is around $185 to $225. The bird below I just finished up tonight. He's on a habitat scene so he'd sell for for around $300-$350 but I shot this bird so I'm keeping him.:) -1pheas4

Thanks for your complement BleuBijou. :) I'm soon to be full time within the next year or so.

I've been specializing in birds for about 6 yrs now. Big game animals are next on my taxidermy list. I'll be going to taxidermy school at the end of the month for big game mounts and I'm working on building a website in hopes to get nationwide clients (for shipping in birds/mammals). --1pheas4

I am having 2 sharptails wall mounted for $500.00 I think he does good work it is what u r willing to pay.
Also I wanted to have them standing so I could have them on a table but he informed me if I have dogs or u let other people rent and have dogs this is a good way to have your mounts destroyed. So I went with a wall mount....

I was told that $275 could be for either standing or flying mount. How would you ship an animal else where to get it mounted?

Thanks NYBowhunter. To ship birds to a taxidermist simply place your (FROZEN) bird in two plastic bags.

Then place the bird into a box near the size of the bird. I like to see tape placed over the bags (not the feathers of the bird!) and onto the inside of the box to keep the bird from moving around.

Place balled up newspaper or bubble wrap/popcorn to snug, insulates, and protect your bird.

From there send out next day air FedEx or UPS. I always have my clients call before shipping just to be sure the bird is tagged with proper info (license info etc.) and so I know the bird is coming.

And that's it. The taxidermist takes it from there.:thumbsup: --1pheas4

I just got my hen back from my local taxidermist. Got a great mount for $125!

You sir have talent, Mighty nice mount. Thank you for sharing that with us. Can I ship birds to you? That mount is one of the best I've see. :thumbsup:

Here is a mount I took a picture of at "The Lodge" in St. Paul, Kansas. Lots of mounts in there, and a good atmosphere. Steaks are supposed to be good, but we just had a burger as it was their lunch menu.

I'm tempted to do one similar to this in the future.

I love dead mounts. I've got on myself with some more I'll be doing soon. Putting spent shotgun shells on the scene looks really cool.:thumbsup: -1pheas4
