New upland vest

I bought a Final Rise Summit XT last year. Its a good vest. Extremely modular. You can add pockets and pouches until you are blue in the face. For me, the most important part of any vest is that it not interfere with my gun mount. The Summit addresses this issue well. Many of the vests have padded (some heavily padded) shoulder straps. Those bother me. I have a LL Bean vest that I actually like as well, if not better than the Summit, but the shoulder straps bothered me. I ended up robbing a piece of seat belt material from a wrecked car and replacing the shooting side strap. Works well now. I do get a little frustrated with the Summit as I can overload it with whatevers. At 75, I need to cut back on weight. That isn't the vest's fault, it is mine. Last thought, for me, I can't see me carrying my 70lb lab very far using my Summit. Maybe I should get a smaller dog?

Big fan of Final Rise!

I’ve been a loyal WingWorks guy for many years but thought I’d try the Marsupial Upland Vest but the shoulder straps were to thick so I bought the low profile ones and hated the shell pockets.
I bought a Final Rise Sidekick for my Grandson and it was way too big for him so I’ve been wearing it. I can’t imagine I will ever go back to my WingWorks and the Marsupials are for sale!

I bought a Final Rise Summit XT last winter so my boy could inherit my old Cabelas strap vest. Finally got to use it this weekend.

I thought it was easy to load the birds. Like somebody above said, just put bird behind you and drop.

I had no issues accessing and reinserting the water bottles. My dogs loved me for that.

I like the deep shell pockets. The last vest I had had a tendency to dribble some shells out if you sat down weird. The magnetic covers on the shell pockets is solid, yet opens easily. Or put the flap cover inside the pocket for easier access.

I have no complaints with it.
My dog learned in 2 outing that if he came to me and sat, I would give him water. Nice to have two squirt bottles when the truck is a long ways away and no creek/puddle. or whatever to try to drink from.

I do have a belt with water holder, shell pocket, accessory that i have worn in the past, but to make it really useful, it has to be attached to what is basically a backpack. I hate the shoulder straps because they are too thick. Final Rise are thin and don't affect the shouldering of my gun as much.

I have found 2 things out about vests....

1. Most are made for anything but hunting wild pheasants.

2. Try them on as a player maybe a xl in Taiwan but it doesn't work here with a thin sweatshirt underneath.

3. Shell loops are promoted by the shell industry as they are the best way to lose shells in the field.

4. Big tough looking zipper failed on my game pouch. A couple of grommets were a real improvement.

Never understood the shell loop thing. Why would anyone use that except to try to look like John Rambo?
