Am I the brother????

We’re looking at 76 where we hunt. Might be just a morning hunt for us.The weather forecast for the opener where I hunt, is a predicted high of 78.
Minnesota needs to change opening weekend to the end of October. Weather is going to be warm for the dogs. Just hunting the morning and maybe the last hour of Saturday.
Some geese. No pheasant (unless you want to drive a suburban to a preserve). Lots of ruffed grouse. Lots of wolves.I wonder if Duluth has pheasant and geese.
I believe that MN DNR will want the pheasant season to be open on the extended MEA weekend. Hunter recruitment and retention is a big goal of most state wildlife agencies.
That's when the early youth and antler less firearms season is. They know exactly when to have that 4 day season open and I can assure you that deer hunting recruitment is a much bigger draw than pheasant hunting is.
What I don't like about this is using feelings to determine how we can use our resources. It should be science-based only. If SD does it and concludes it doesn't effect the population, why shouldn't we do it. If it did, then reduce the bag back to 2 all season. If you don't want to hunt later, don't do it. No one is forced to go and if its a tough winter, the hunters won't be out anyway. Additionally, its not like people won't hunt at all if the season goes longer. It would only increase participation which should be the goal along with maintaining our resources. I would love to see the survey. It should have been "rank your preferred closing date 1-4 (least to greatest)."A spokesperson for the DNR said that the hunter survey report noted that the January 1 (nearest Sunday) was the least polarizing option in the survey and the January 31st closure date was the most polarizing option. They said staying with the January 1 closure date was the "safest" decision ... but the DNR will continue to explore extending the season out to around January 10th over the next few years.
Effective response rate was 27% of the 4,500 surveys sent out.
