Bird Numbers - Bowdle (Edmunds County)

The best part about SD is that it pulls thousands of MN hunters (make that 10s of thousands) west for many days ... leaving my home state much quieter and less pressured.

So you're saying I need to go over to Minnesota to get away from all the Minnesota hunters? I've been doing it all wrong staying home and hunting here in SD.

P.S. Does it work for fishing too?

From what I see here in OH on Lake Erie in The spring I can't believe there are any people left in IA and MN and WI as it seems like they are all out here with their boats fishing!!

They go to the Missouri river in convoys in the spring. MN, IA and sprinkle a few NB plates in there too.

PheasantWhisperer,

The statement, "It's good to have kids humbled on hunts. Otherwise they get spoiled. They appreciate the good hunts more", is very true.
The problem I have is spending $2000 and 9 days (4 days of travel) to accomplish this lesson.

We are fortunate that we live in an agricultural area here in NE Ohio and my kids and I either hunt/fish for something almost WEEKLY! Believe me, my kids get their share of humbling!

The only reason I started this post was to get a pheasant report for Edmunds county.

Then you shoulda called edmunds county and talked to someone there. Or someone that lives close to the farm you hunt. That would have been my first move. I've spent money on worse things than going on a hunting trip.

Good idea! But I didn't appreciate the humble crack.

The $2000 is what it cost my two sons and myself to be on the road for 9 days. Fuel, hotels, food, and hunting licenses.
Do the math.

We hunt for free on private land at our destination, approximately 4000 acres scattered around the Bowdle area.

I get a kick out of some folks you meet on these forums.

You asked for opinions and information on the forum--and got some from members in good faith and will good intentions --from those I read--

You however seem to be over sensitive to some off those and almost insulting to some members who answered you in good faith-

If you don't like the forum maybe it's the wrong one for you--

Or Ohio may be the best place this fall

Yes all us in MN guys leave the state to fish walleye in other states nobody fish MN any longer or go to the BWCA??? now you guys in SD & I guess OH are feeling what MN anglers have felt for 30+ years be happy you have walleye again I'd say...???

That's because we still have ice on our lakes and the season is closed. ;)

Yes, the beauty of the best walleye fishery in the world. No closed season and lots of big fish. Tough to beat.

BTW I wasn't complaining about all the out of state visitors as you all bring and drop lots of money here just like we do when we travel west to chase birds.

Good point! Between my in laws and us, we will pump close to $7,000. Into the SD economy in a week. That is with us unting public land. Grant it the trip isn't about hunting only, in matter of fact, there may only be two of us hunting 2 or 3 days. I don't see us limiting out each day, especially since we will be pulling into a spot we have been scouting online and none of us have ever been to SD before. As the saying goes " enjoy the journey"
We plan on enjoying God's creation and the opportunity he is giving g us to experience it

I have consistently caught eater walleyes on lakes such as Gull Lake at a rate of 2 to 5 per hour. Some of your heavier pressured MN lakes. If you want to catch more fish switch over to Bass and the catch rate goes up 3X to 20X.

Couple of hours AM and PM ... plenty of time in the middle to tube, golf or relax.

MN fisherman often rush to SD because the walleye season is open when MN season is closed. Can get to SD lakes easier than Rainy. If it is just about fishing then yah I suppose SD lakes are the place to be.
