Taking my son heading to Bennett County for the first time over thanksgiving. Hoping to find a few phez and maybe a sharptail or prarie chicken?. Just wondered what to expect there and if its possible to find all three species. Any general info would be great.

I've done some work in that area. I can't say I've ever seen much in the way of birds. Never tried hunting in that area.
If you're going to be there. I'd suggest it would be worth driving to Chamberlain or Pierre.

By thanksgiving the Prairie Chickens and sharpies flush about 300 yards out on the snowscape!

My brothers dog flushed one covey of sharps right in front of him in decenber, sadly my brother was letting him range too far because he didn't believe any birds lived in those hills. All the rest we saw were flushing way out just like you described.

There are birds to be found in Bennet County. There are some public hunting areas near the LaCreek Refuge that typically hold some birds.
