2014 SD Harvest Report

Interesting harvest report, by county, on the SD State website.

It appears the three top counties are along I90: Brule, Aurora and Davison. The survey is based on hunter reports and other facts reported to the DNR

If you click on each county, there's info. on number of hunters per 100 sq. mile, and money spent by hunters et al.

Those counties in the far southern part of the state aren't listed as tops - Tripp, Gregory and Charles Mix. Wonder why they aren't in the top??

From what I've seen, birds seem to be spread out (south) compared to north or around I-90. Less public land may contribute to that too:confused:.

On the SD web site, click hunting; next click pheasant hunting -on the bottom of the page is the distribution map.

I also found another map that lists different counties than the one on the hunting site...this one appears to be from 2011.

Mitchell is an epicenter. Lots of hunters stay and report there. Hunting is good west, southwest and north. East not so much but good locally. Lots of motels and eats in Mitchell.
 
I agree with Uncle Buck about Mitchell. Hunted there last year first part of November. Saw quite few birds...hitting them is another post. Adequate amount of public ground. Another plus for Mitchell is my wife likes it there! We stay at the Kelly Inn, across the road is Wal Mart, Cabela's and Culvers. The kids purchased us a gift certificate to a local steakhouse for Christmas. Needless to say will be in Mitchell Nov 18th.

My cousin and uncle stay there when I'm not out there with them. I'll tell them to say "hi" to 2 Labs when they see you:D
