So what is with some of the photos in the Pheasants Forever 2014 Pheasant Hunting Preview edition ??

Page 5. Man standing with gun and a loaded shell jam ??

Read the caption ... Get Ready Go!

Hardly the appropriate photo to start the magazine with .... One of the poorest photos I have seen published.

There are a few more. Not sure what the editors were thinking.

I puzzled over that photo too.

I believe that having a shell holding open the slide on an auto loader is the equivalent of having your SxS broke open to show that its safe. I may be wrong but thats my explanation anyways.

+1. Common around here to show unloaded.

Not only that, but look closely at the name of the gun stamped on the reciever. It is AFFINITY spelled backwards, and it portrays the gun to be left handed. FRANCHI does not make a left handed AFFINITY as far as I know. What all this means is that the picture was photo-shopped.

Very astute. I have never seen that before.

I think your spot on QH. I've seen guys do this in the past to let everyone know there's no way their gun can fire.

if u have never seen guys crack open barrels or open the chamber on there pump or auto and stick a shell in it or just leave it open for to see so they know the gun is safe etc. somebody better make a safety speach or at least try to plant that seed in there hunting party???

how many guys have u seen prop up there still loaded guns on a car tree etc. with dogs and clumsy people walking around after a hunt it only takes 1 loaded gun to fall hit the ground and bang it should not fire from just a fall but if the chamber was empty or action left open with will shell stuck in 4 safety sake the gun does not go boom...

any time im back at the vehicle i crack my chamber open at least half way if not just take the shell out the chamber all together... most people when they see this do the same its a very good idea happy to see them pumping it in mags and i just seen the same thing in wingshooting usa the other day to many un safe guys with guns nowdays...

What do you think of pg 120-121? Must be a stellar photographer?

So funny story is I knew they were going to use the photos at some point this fall, but never thought it would be that quick. I actually had the magazine a week early for some reason and sat on my desk all week. I ran down to southern MN to see the new 40 acres that we had acquired and was sitting with my dad looking at the magazine and stopped dead in my tracks. Pretty neat to see them in an actual magazine. But if any of you watch the outdoor channel and "The Flush" there is no making fun of me:) I even represented UPH with the hat.

But as for the topic at hand my favorite was the chick with the red dot slug barrel. Totally staged. That is why when I am out shooting photos for clients or fun, I try to do it a 100% all natural. Have to be real quick and a good understanding of the dogs and how they work.

The 2 page photo with the guy and woman (red glow bead) ... can anyone ever imagine dressing the way the guy does ?

Unless you are walking out from a duck hunt ... that guy is dressed way to warm and bulky. I hunt in 10F weather with far less on top.

Subsequent page in the magazine ... staging a wounded bird for the dog photo would be deemed unethical by many ... illegal in some states. In many states wounded birds must be immediately killed. No exceptions.

Thats a nice Cruiser, I've always wanted one of that vintage.

I think most guys try to get the action shot before any trigger pulling would occur. With that said never have done a staged shot like that, and if I did I would venture to guess I would not let the guy shoot. Or if I did want him to shoot, make sure he shot well clear of the bird and away from me....

I brought that photo to my shop---hung it on one of my cabinets:thumbsup:

PF's magazine has been very good this past year or so. Great articles plus some great photos. I'm a particular fan of the wild pheasant photos:thumbsup: Not such a fan of the pen bird photos:D lol

Great magazine. I hope PF keeps it up.:)

Lazer and I have a huge library of wild pheasant photos. We will be posting them in the coming months on UPH.

That's funny. When I saw the picture my first thought was no one hunts in clothes that nice. Not a speck of dirt to be seen, much less a tear or rip. Doesn't resemble my hunting clothes at all. :D

Which one? The one of the truck or web guy? I actually gave that photog to my dad for Xmas for his office. Reminds him of the old days she. He was running the country side with his buddies.

Thats Bruce - It is Rehans truck. Great guy, even better truck. Tops out at a whopping 57mph. So our 2 hour drive took quite a bit longet that day, but well worth the experience.

Well if I had one my first upgrade would be a 5.3l vortech engine and a 4l60e tranny. That would be a huge upgrade in both the power/ cruising speed and the MPG categories.
