Making the Flushing Bar a Reality

Just picked up the last of the supplies for the flushing bar at fleetfarm. It will be on the machine and in full use on Thursday when I begin clipping the 200 acres of new CRP. Got the window mount for the video cam and hope to have the camera running the whole time which will be about a full two days to get everything mowed. Should have some decent footage and they should be quite a few more birds hatched.

I hope to edit the video and have the highlights of this bars effectiveness on a youtube video soon.

IN case you did not see results of the flushing bar contest link here is some reports on the effectiveness of the bar.

STELLAR! See for yourself.......200 acres mowed.

Plot 3, 30 acres

Plot 5, 40 acres

Plot 3, 3 hens, 12 broods

TOTALS

9 Roosters, 15 hens without broods, 50 broods (assume each brood had a hen with it), 2 fawns

Here's some picks of the test it stood.

Still hope to have some video put together soon.

Chris, how many empty beer cans were at the end of those chains?????

1 more clipping due on about 45 acres today. Saw about 15 broods. All sizes. Not much color. Almost like the rooties get color same time the milo does.

I flushed a couple birds that I had a hard time telling them from a sparrow?

Was fun and am amazed at how good the flushing bar works. Done for the year. Its weeds vs. grass and I am out.

they say 3 year establishment at NRCS so year 1 down the tubes.

By the way the field I clipped was the one with 8' velvet leaf above and was about knee high now. Good stuff going on in that field and the clipping was JIT.

Cris,

Great post and project......now maybe we can educate the rest of the farmers in this practice

Nice report, I just would like to suggest a dog collar beeper to extend out front of the tractor on the flushing bar, 3/4 of 2-9ths of all bird dog men say the beepers scare Pheasants away!!!:D

I don't know about that but I was thinking of mounting 4 big triangular slow moving vehicles signs on bar facing forward. I know blaze orange moves em.

I stll have this video camera with all the footage sitting right here to go thru. Hopefully get to it next week to refute the down counts.

Great footage and super project IMO :coolpics:

Very nice Chris. It seems as if it worked out pretty well.

Maybe some day it's use will become common-place;).
