I was looking at a breeder of dk (aka gsp) and this breeder has a male that weighs 85lbs and is almost 27inches tall. my question is isnt that huge for a gsp? I thought gsp were supposed to be fast and agile. how agile would a dog that size be? just curious for all i know it could be very agile. thoughts?

That's about the size of my GSP, he is a bit bigger than most I've been around, but as far as agility and speed he doesn't seem to lack.

Murry is 80 pounds and I just measured him and he is about 26 inches tall.

85 lbs would be a very large dog and much larger than the breed standard.
The Breed Standard according to the AKC and GSPCA (German Shorthaired Pointer club of America) states 23-25 inches at the withers and 55-70 lbs for males. For females it's 21-23 inches and 45-60 lbs.

I think the little guy is a bone collector.
That picture was taken at a family reunion in Colorado soon after I picked Murry up at the airport in Kansas City. I had a shock collar on him as I had no idea how he would react to new terrain, new dogs and new people. He was a delight in the cabin, on land or on water.

The DK's I have been around have been larger dogs than many of the GSP's I have seen.

There are 3 standards that are set for the GSP or DK worldwide.
1st and the original is the German standard (F.C.I) which covers all of Europe (except the UK) and includes South America. The German standard simply gives a height range 24.5 - 26 inches for males and 23¾ - 24¾ inches for females. No weight standard is given.
2nd is the American standard ala AKC.
3rd and the newest standard is the one used in the UK. Very similar to the American standard.
If you're truly interested in the total history of the breed I HIGHLY recommend this book by Georgina Byrne "Der Deutsch Kurzhaar". The most thorough book ever written on the breed from it's origins to present day. Don't be alarmed by the price, it's money well spent I assure you.
