My dad has always owned weimaraners so I grew up around the breed and loved my fair share of them. Don’t mind what most people here are saying, they are excellent bird dogs. I truly believe this might be one of the most misunderstood bird dog of them all. Do to the irresponsible breeding of this dog you do have to find the right breeder. I would steer clear of the “blues” as they are considered by most weimaraner people far less capable to hunt then their mouse grey counterparts. My dad bought one, just to try and that dog was beautiful and a good pet around the house but couldn’t hold a nickel next to his other “grey ghosts”.

They are extremely loyal and territorial as you will not find a better dog to watch the house while you are gone. They are great with kids but can be really hard headed and take a lot of work training in the field and just like all other bird dogs, they need a job or they can get destructive. My dad was the president of a pheasant release club and raised his own quail so his dogs got plenty of work. He has a dog right now that he got from a breeder in Kansas which is close to 100lbs and looks absolutely beautiful in the field when he locks on birds. Many a times our boys out worked vizslas and gsps out at our gun club.

I can say that I have a 8 year old Blue, close hunter great nose, solid pointer gets along with other dogs great, like any dog do your research and get one from hunting line, lots of them out there. They can be expensive thou... just because you dont see them everywhere does not mean they cant hunt, or wont that is crazy talk. I got one cause I didn't want a dog that everyone else had, how boring... And it makes it pretty easy to spot a 100 blue dog in the field along side his buddies that are all gsp'ers smaller and brown for the most part. Also good thing with them like most gsp also great with people never met a person he didn't like or kids no matter how old very gental for as big as they are... Good Luck:)

i think this is great, the more we pick on the breed, the more good things we hear about it, keep it going and maybe some of us will smarten up, but then that's a maybe, anyway, just like blonde's, some of them are good
