What does everyone prefer? Do you have multiple guns for different scenarios? When walking big fields with a group I use my Browning Gold 12 gauge so that I can rip off additional shots if needed with larger flushes. I prefer my O/U when it is just myself and my German Shorthair walking tighter cover in smaller fields. Feedback?

I'm a one gun man for bird hunting. The Benelli SBE. I also have a Benelli Argo R-1 30-06 for deer.

I hunt with a Winchester model 1300 12 ga. I would love to have a 16 ga browning O/U and I also like the new Browning Silver Hunter Auto's, but I'm such a cheap bastard that I have a hard time buying things that I don't need. The winchester fits me well, and has never missed a beat, and I don't miss much with it. I also don't have to worry about scratching it, since it has a few already.

I usually end up switching between a remington 1100 and an Beretta 390. I'll use the beretta when hunting in a bigger group or with better gunners (it only holds 3 shells). If I think I am gonna need more than three shots hunting alone or in a small group or when posting in SD, basically anytime those two extra shells will come in handy I'll use my old remington 1100.

I use a Beretta AL 390. I've had it for about ten years and I love it. I have thought about trading it in on a newer model but can't justify the cost when i already have a gun that fits well and functions perfectly. I have a Browning BPS as a backup but have never had to use it. I take it out once in a while to stay sharp with a pump.

I picked up the Beretta 390 2 years ago after I was on a hunt in SD and had to use my dad's 391 that he won at a banquet (I forgot the keys to my trigger lock, oops). Galyans had them on a close out deal for $500 I thought it was a great deal, new 391 was going for about $850 at the time. It is a black one that I had picked up mostly for duck hunting but it is so smooth and reliable that I started using it in the field too.

I have been a 12ga Mossberg 500 pump user for so many years I've forgotten how many. I recently picked up a Winchester 1300 12ga pump just after the Winchester plant closed down and have made it my primary hunting gun with the Mossberg put up as my backup gun. (it still goes with me on every outing)

My all time favorite is my 870 in 12 ga. That gun is a death dot, all I have to do is think where I want the shot to go, and something will fall.
In an effort to look more "sporty" I switched to a SXS 20 ga with improved and modified barrels, and that worked well for me for several years. It is light and fast, and a joy to carry afield.
However, after my birthday last year (God, I love my wife!), I've been using a Sweet Sixteen, and sadly, all my other shotguns are feeling neglected.

SBE for the early seaon with a group an my Citori O/U for late season when it's just me and the dog.

I have to go with my Red Label. Wife bought it for me 2 years ago for Christmas and never want to carry anything else while chasing the roosters.:)

I currently hunt with a Beretta White Onyx O/U, but I'm thinking about picking up a semi-auto for group hunts, maybe a Benelli Montefeltro. But I seem to recall this gun being somewhat cumbersome to unload. Is anyone familiar with the procedure to unload the magazine on the Montefeltro?

Thanks for any replies!

My old faithful is a Winchester Super X2. I am getting a new Browning Gold Fusion now(lighter and a few more upgrades). I like semi's and have had wonderful experience with the Browning/Winchester actions. Let me tell you I have torture tested that gun for sure and put thousands of rounds through it without a single Jam.

My favorite is a Browning Citori Lightning 12 gauge. Fits me, and I shoot pretty well with it, too. I have an 870 Express 12 gauge as a back-up, which I also use as my duck and turkey gun.

I have a Browning 12ga, but will be buying a 20ga Beretta when the guns go on sale here within the next couple of months.

Remington 870

I love my 12ga Remington 870 Wingmaster. Also have a 20ga Remingtom Wingmaster, that I got when I was 14. Don't shoot it much anymore since I have the 12ga.

Do you guys really take a backup gun? And why? My 870 has never given me a reason or even a thought of needing to take an EXTRA with me. Not bashing, just asking.

If you are traveling far from home, you really do need to bring an extra gun.
My trip to SD is a 17 hour drive, way to far to go home and pick up a different shotgun if there is a problem. While problems don't often occur, they sure can. The Remington 870's are very good, but, I have seen them brake a firing pin, extractor, or ejector.

Also, being a "gun nut", I like to shoot different guns anyway.

"A gun you can hit with is priceless!"
