Winter hunting report

Winter is here --right now it's 4 above zero with a NW wind at 18MPH--cold with 7 inches of new snow and the birds are holding really tight--so tight that my son's 8 yr old lab caught one this morning---a healthy non injured wild pheasant--it was just a tad slow getting out of the heavy cover and snow. The other two birds we got were found by the dogs and flushed within feet of the hunters.:D

Being old and not every tolerant of cold weather I have retired to my easy chair in front of the fire place and left the hunting to the younger set. If you can take the cold and wind this would be a good weekend to hunt in South Dakota

Hey Jim, the fireplace sounds like the better plan! :) I'm with you, can't take the cold or the heat like I could years ago. I'm sitting home waiting for warmer days to hit the field. 0 degrees here in Watertown right now with NW winds at 20 gusting to 36. Wind chill -22.

I have a friend coming from Colorado in about 10 days for 4 days of hunting. Praying it warms a little by then. I'm hoping to meet a UPH member in the Tripp area around the holidays for a day or two of hunting. Weather permitting! If we don't find any birds we might have to head west to your area.

I to hope it warms up a bit so I can get back in the field--you know where the place is and I'm sure we can work something out.:D

My son and I head to SD as soon as school is out Friday Dec.20. It is our first trip to SD. We have been into a few birds here in Kansas this fall but ready to see how the hunting is in the big time. 15 days and counting
