Winner lodging

Any suggestions for decent lodging in the winner area for about 6 pheasant hunters? Had a bad experience last year and looking for alternatives. Not real crazy about the hotels in the area either. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

You might try contacting the local taxidermist/pheasant cleaner; he may steer you to accommodations other than a motel. He has 1-2 houses he rents to hunters.

I encountered the same situation as you last December: several motels have closed their doors and the choice now is a run-down dump or the Holiday Inn.

Good luck.

Is this the one that says Cock Cleaning on the side of the building. I saw it driving through, thought it was pretty funny. Probably ends up with a lot of capes for mounts. And he probably charges to clean the bird too? Good biz!

This business is in the center of town, on the main highway. He does clean birds and other game. A very accommodating fellow and a good contact in Winner.

In 2009 they cleaned over 25K birds:eek: ... at $3.50/bird they are at $87,500 over the season.

Must have a little help.

"Kooch" arranged two farms for us to hunt; one was outstanding. The second - fair to poor. I dealt with "Rick." I don't know a Lynn...

I can't speak to his houses/accommodations. I believe he has at least two.

I would contact him again this season, if I have a large group needing a house.
Otherwise it appears to be a motel.

It's certainly is worth a phone call to him to discuss your needs...

Consider motels(2) in the Gregory area - 29 miles away.
