Why restore Habitat

Ran across this in the current issue of South Dakota Magaine.

After restoration of a wetlands:

"For now the wild critters are back, The croaking of a bullfrog has an eternal predictability, especially in comparison to the weather, the government and most other things in life. Maybe that's why is sounds so comforting in the night"

That is why we do the habitat work-- so the wild critters come back and we and those that follow us can enjoy the comfort it provides.

The entire article titled THE BULLFROGS'S CROAK can be found on page 3 of the March/April 2013 issue of South Dakota Magazine.

What so many of us trade away chasing the ALMIGHTY $$$$ oh how we forget the true pleasures of life !!!

Frogs and Bees are the true Indicator, of health, of an eco system. With out them things are not good. The leopard frog and others indicate what is going on in any habitat. No lower food chain no high food chain. All beasts great and small, have a purpose on this planet.

Nature thrives in diversity. Man, unfortunately, pulls nature toward simple communities that support only a fraction of the wildlife species the diverse community they replaced once supported. It's funny that we fear the things we can't control. The forces of fire and bison shaped much of this country. Once we controlled them, many of the things we revered disappeared.

You guys would enjoy the American Prairie Reserve and what their doing. about a quarter million acres and growing fast. Fences are being removed, cattle are gone. Pure strain Bison have been brought in from Woodland Buffalo in Canada.
Much of the land is native, what isn't is being restored.
Most cattlemen hate it, but end up selling to the APR. They have a TON of money to work with.
There will always be a bison proof exterior fence.
I'm a member, spend time there every year.
