Who's still hunting?

Anybody here lucky enough to have the weekend free, with plans of getting out in the fields again?

The weatherman says it's going to snow in Central and East Central KS this w/e. I'm booked up Saturday with wrestling in Junk town, but Sunday we'll be out.

The original plan was to head back home (central Flint Hills) for some quail hunting, but with the snow coming in, I'm beginning to think I should change my plans for a 1-day rooster trip....I hate to waste a good snow event by quail hunting all day.

So who's going out and which upland species will you be hunting?

Been thinking about it, but this darn Christmas thing is looming. If I can knock out a few things in the next couple evenings, I may give it a go in the east half of the state or maybe MO.

Maybe some quail hunting in NE Kansas in between deer hunts in the morning and evening with the bow. Heck may even try to walk up for turkeys:eek::eek:

Good Luck Chad!

Kick'em Up!

oh I'm off for the next two weeks with plans of wearing out some leather ,my wife is wishing i would go more often she loves the Peace and quite good luck to all

Just washed my truck from the Nebraska and Kansas mud. I hate to get it dirty again but I am booked for a bunch of days starting the 26th. That might be my last trip this season. There are so few birds I think I don't want to pressurize them more than necessary. Just saying...

I'll be out with my daughter goose and duck hunting. Probably both days. I have about a week and a half off over Christmas so I'll be doing some multi-species hunting then as well.

This upland hunting has consumed almost my entire waterfowl season so I have to get the lab out and wet soon!

I have Christmas break from this Friday until the 6th. I plan on spending a good number of days trying to put Molly on some pheasant. Saturday is my wife's and my anniversary, so I guess I need to wait until at least Sunday to head out!!!

I was probably not going, but if we get snow I will sneak out on Sunday! Hate to waste a snow day!!!

I too have Christmas break for the next two weeks, so I'll get out around here for a few days and then will also be in SW Kansas for 4 days. Will try to find a bird or two and maybe shoot a few coyotes while I'm out there. Buddies and I had a good hunt last weekend. 4 of us shot 6 in a half day of hunting and seen quite a few more. It was promising because we were all getting pretty discouraged before then.

I need to stay home this weekend, I've been hunting every weekend since the last week in October in ND. Leaves need to be cleaned up. I get the week off between Christmas and New Years, I'll be out then.

I'm going to give some walk-in a whirl before Feb. 1. Private ground off limits - need what few birds left for breeding stock.

KB I will be out in the same area you are heading all weekend. Let me know if you want to walk a field together. I am down a dog, my young pointer had to have part of his tail amputated Tuesday.

:confused:What happened to your dog?

I'll let you know what we decide. It's going to depend mostly on the weather and the company Christmas party the night before, where we end up Sunday.

Well as you probably know the first thing that happens to a pointer, is the tips of their tails bleed when they hunt. I hunt a lot and mine had quite a scab on it. My 3 bird dogs are all house dogs and are a part of the family. Well when my pointer would hit his tail on something in the house it would break that scab open and get blood everywhere. I put some gauze and vet wrap over it in the house to prevent getting blood everywhere. When I got home from work Monday night there was blood everywhere in his crate, he bolted past me to go outside and I saw the tape still on his tail. I assumed he had either thrown up blood or had a bloody stool. When I went outside to check on him I could see what had happened. He had tried to chew off the bandage in his crate and in doing so he chewed about an inch of his tail off. It was pretty gross, the bone part was sticking out. So I retaped him and took him to the vet. I asked them to take as little as possible because he is so stylish. They ended up having to take about 5 inches. He is not supposed to hunt for 10 days, and has to wear the cone of shame. I sure hope he gets his style back! He just turned 1 in August.

That last pic of him is incredible! What a great looking dog:thumbsup:

I sure hope he gets better soon!! I'll try to send you a PM tomorrow evening in reference to the w/e. If they're getting at least 2 inches of snow out there, I believe it'll prompt me to get up early and make the drive.

I think he definitely wanted the tape off. I feel so bad for him I may tape him up and let him hunt this weekend. He will be pissed if his brother and sister get to hunt and he doesn't.
