What an awesome day!

Both of my dogs were on fire ��

Should have worn my waders as I got completely soaked from the kness dowm. Scenting conditions were great which allowed for good tracking by the dogs. Had a WIA all to myself and never saw another hunter, heard them!

USMC, good to hear you had a good day. I walked all around by Burlington on Rooster RoundUp properties, but didn’t flush anything. Saw a couple of birds off the road driving around. There is still a lot of standing corn, so maybe that is where they are hiding. Hoping for a better day tomorrow for sure. What kind of cover were you finding them in?
 
How did everyone do? Only two WIAs that we saw birds on were the first field and the last field of the day. Covered almost 9 miles and my pup quartered back and forth between 6 hunters. He easily covered twice, if not three times the distance we did. Couldn't be happier with his performance. I learned a lot and I'm sure he did as well. I'm never hunting with my back to the wind again if I can help it. Birds we found were flighty and had some legs for sure. Made my pointer work and he never "slammed" a point like I've seen him do dozens of times on preserve hunts. Must be the wild bird aspect. All in all, good day to get out but so wish we could have gotten at least one bird to reward him for all his effort.
 
Weird day for us. That fog and moisture on the ground was insane and had the three of us SOAKED from the armpits down. We walked some tall stuff hoping to find a rooster. We flushed four hens in the first 10 minutes...showed some GREAT restraint not shooting at the first flushing bird! My son and buddy were soaked and freezing and we ended up heading home around 10:00. Never saw a rooster (a first in four years for opening day). Seemed the folks with dogs were doing well and covering a lot of ground. Us walkers were stuck doing our due diligence and walking every inch of ground we could. Too much standing corn and every hen we flushed went straight to it. I had fun but my son and buddy were not prepared for being that cold so early.

We'll head out again after Thanksgiving.
 
Julesburg was crawling with hunters (no surprise there). The uncut corn really limited opportunities, so I’ll be wanting to get back out there after it’s cut.

Found 3 roosters on one wheat field (plenty of weeds/old wheat between rows - so they appeared to be loafing in it). We got 2 of the 3 into the bag - I killed one, my 14yr old son killed one, and then one dodged my son’s 20g hailstorm :).

Hunted hard from sunrise until 12:30pm and only saw those 3 roosters to shoot at. Additionally we saw 3 hens, and 1 rooster flying out of the wheat field about 200 yards ahead of us.

Hey Eddie Mc...think we talked to you south of Stratton...were you running a pointer and a vizsla? How did you end up doing? We had a good hunt.

Hey Dave, we did well. I hunted 5 out of seven days last week and did really well now the dogs are tired and so am I. For the next few weeks I can only go on Saturdays until Christmas then I have another week off. Were you the ones asking us about the Cut Corn field by where we were parked?

we were in a silver pu and my buddy had a white pu he was in front us and was talking to you guys I stayed out the whole week got a bad cold and only hunted a few days going back out after thanksgiving my buddy had to cut corn but we had agreat time
