Starting to plan the trips for next year. I will be heading to SD for sure, but trying to decide if two trips is worth it given this winter or if I would be better taking the second trip to Kansas. Thoughts anyone?
 
I think it's way too early to provide an answer to your question. Even if we do lose a lot of birds this winter an excellent hatch this summer can make a huge difference. I know it doesn't give you much time but I would wait until SD does their annual road count survey. That's a better indicator of how the pheasants faired. I think the results of the road survey come out towards the end of August.
 
I like mid-season hunting for the cooler (but not frigid) weather, fact that birds are spread out and can use a variety of cover and for the challenge.

Went to KS in December 2008 and liked it so much that from now on I will be taking November trips to SD & December trips to Kansas. In effect it gets me two mid-season trips a year. Not to mention a chance at Bob's and PC if I hunt the right areas in KS.

My two cents.
 
Go ahead and plan your trips. Should be enough birds for a hard working hunter.:thumbsup:

If I had to do it again...I would go to SD for two and a half days...get in my truck mid afternoon and drive to north central KS and quail hunt for a couple of days...might do that next year. Seems like a deal to me...I hope I can talk my hunting buddy into doing it. My opinion that would be the best of both worlds. If the bird counts are similar...that is what I would do. Good Luck
